-If Ottawa nabs Khabby, they have the option of Colorado having mild to strong interest in Gerber - especially at his cap hit. Murray wants Leopold out of Colorado, thinking that he can get his career back on track after a series of devastating injuries. The 1.5 cap hit that Leopold carries is fine by Murray - assuming Schubert or McAmmond is part of this package.

Essentially they told me that if the dust settles and Murray can acquire Khabby for 6.75, then ship Gerber and McAmmond and maybe even another player out for Leopold, he would consider doing this.

I don't know that much about Leopold, nor do I put too much stock in these rumours, but that's an interesting take from a couple of people that seem to know what they're talking about.
Well McCammond was not on a line at practice this morning.

Wow, way to go heater, that does seem like a good solution.. If Colorado deceides to play-along..... I wouldn't mind seeing that done at all... Leopold and Khabby in my opinion would be an upgrade over Gerber, Shubert and McAmmond...

Well I'm sure Murray is working on something, we will most likely hear by this time tomorrow...

You think Jam?

This is one of those "all three teams have to want to do this for this to get done", but an interesting rumour for sure!

To summarize for everyone - and again - this is a rumour!

To Ottawa
Nikolai Khabibulin
Jordon Leopold

To Chicago
Cap relief

To Colorado
Martin Gerber
Christoph Schubert
Dean McAmmond

Between the 2 of them, tho', they could spend a whole season's worth of games on the IR, tho'. I remember Leopold from his days in Calgary, when he was decent enough, but he's fallen a long way since then.

Tight math, too:

Current team space = $2.7 mil. We have too many players at the moment, tho', so that number has to increase a bit, possibly by as much as $1.5-2 mil.

SUBTRACTIONS:

$2.7 mil + $3.7 mil (Gerber) + $1.7 mil (McAmmond and Schubert) + $500,000 (Richardson in the minors, as per his 2-way deal = a max of $8.6 mil in cap space.

ADDITIONS:

$6.7 mil (Khabby) + Leopold ($1.5 mil) = $8.2 mil in new salary.

TOTAL CAP SPACE AFTER TRADES:

$8.4 mil - $8.2 mil = $400,000. And that's for 12 F, 7 D (including Leopold, but not Richardson), and 2 G. I can't see Murray putting us that tight against the cap.

On the plus side, tho', if we could clear out the above salary (Gerber, McAmmond, and Schubert, and Richardson to the minors) we could accommodate Khabby's $6.7 mil salary with about $2 mil in cap space. But that comes back to finding someone to take Gerber, or biting the bullet and paying him his full salary to play in the minors.

I think Willsie or Laperriere would be a better option than Leopold.

Leopold has the potential to put up numbers if he stays health. Hopefully any potential deal for Leopold includes a conditional pick. I am not big on giving things away for nothing so I would hate to see him come here and he doesnt play due to injury.

But Murray wants a real PP specialist, which Leopold has been in the past - before his plethora of injuries.

We have enough forwards right now. It's all about the PP QB and the goalie if this gets done.

I don't love the Leopold prospect as much as I'd like to, but I love the thought of him. You know what I mean? :D

That "if he stays healthy" qualifier applies to both Leopold and Khabby. Is Murray willing to take on so much risk on our back end?

I just don't understand why he would be placed on waivers? dosen't make sense to me...

There might already be a deal in place when he clears waivers. Chicago won't assign him to the AHL team, so a trade might already be worked out. They just want to see if Colorado or Ottawa will bite and just take him off their hands. If not, expect Murray to aggressively 'suggest' a Gerber, Schubert for Bulin and Barker (and now I hear some Seabrook rumblings).

Huh. Well, interesting times coming up...someone's gonna get him and Chicago is praying it's not Colorado, but...that's life when you don't know how to manage your cap.

I'd take the risk on one of them but not both at the same time.

I think including Kelly into a deal would free up the cash to take on Bulin. Kelly could be of benifit to another team and easily replaced by one of our younger players. If Murray is as happy as he says he is with Zack Smith this might be an opportunity to give him and McAmmond more playing time.

They were never getting anything for him anyway. I have a feeling that if we're in on this -we're either getting Leopold, Barker or Seabrook. Take the pain Tallon, you screwed up - we're one of like...2 teams that needs a goalie - and it's not even a 5 alarm need for us. So if you want to get him out of the West and into the East - we'll take him, but you'll pay either way.

Buahhahaha.

24 hours I think? We'll know by 12:00ish tomorrow.

The pain in the Donkey of it all is if this all goes down there might be as many as 3 players having to get their arses on a plane to Sweden.

The likelihood of this happening has to go down a big % if Murray hadn't acquired Khabby earlier. Why mess with the team now while they're in Sweden. Too much hassle IMO.

Pretty f-ed up...I honestly thought Tallon had made his bed and was prepping to sleep in it until the deadline.

Makes you really wonder about the Lang trade. I'm curious as to how much the Hawks did not want Lang around their young guys (work ethic, attitude?)

Because CHI is over the cap, needs to create space, already has Huet, has over $10 mil invested in goalies, and presumably can't find a trading partner willing to take on Khabby.

So, you waive him and hope someone claims him. If not, well, you still have options: assign him to the AHL (highly unlikely, given his salary), bring him through re-entry waivers and let someone claim him them (would happen for sure, tho' CHI would be left with half his salary), work out some kind of trade (ala the Schneider scenario), or keep him (this is still an option -- waiving a guy doesn't automatically send him to the minors; if he goes unclaimed and the team doesn't assign him to the minors, he could hypothetically play the whole season with that team).

It makes sense, in other words, for all the reasons that the Schneider waiving made sense.

Yeah your right, that they were never getting anything in the first place, but then why put him on waivers? it's just wasting time IMO...

I just hope that whatever happens we end up with Khabby instead of Gerber.... Getting Seabrooke would be nice too.. But i'm not getting my hopes up too quickly either...
