(Does Cupid have Red Wings? Shoot him down because it's not Valentine's Day yet! )

Ottawa (35-22-4, 1st in the Northeast and 3rd in the Eastern Conference) visits Detroit (27-21-6, 3rd in the Central and 10th in the West) Saturday night at The Joe.

Thursday night the Sens handed the Washington Capitals their first regulation loss in 16 outings in a match up of the two hottest teams in the NHL. Although pizza was served, it wasn't an easy task by any stretch. The Caps extended their hat-trick streak (hat-streak?) to three games with Semin's three goals, erasing an early 3-1 Ottawa lead and going ahead 4-3. Ottawa kept coming at them and regained the 2-goal lead, before eventually winning the game 6-5. Although the Caps did not look tired following an overtime loss in Montreal the night before, a rusty Varlamov did not hurt. Ovechkin was held to 2 assists as 1st star Anton Volchenkov blocked a career-high 11 shots (most of them were probably Ovechkin's).

Detroit sits 1 point out of the final playoff spot, but has a game in hand on 8th seed Calgary. Thursday night they managed to get a single point, losing to San Jose in a shootout (their first loss to the Sharks in four games). They would dearly love to grab two points and go into the break in a playoff position.

Where's Clutch? I PMd him asking if he'd have time to put one out but he's been offline most (all?) of the day.

Cullen presser: http://bit.ly/burQ8X

He played for Bryan in Anaheim. He was expecting moves would be made given the standings, and is happy it was to a good team like Ottawa. Didn't really say much.

Here's to hoping his gonna let his play do all the talking for him.

Amen to that.

I don't really feel bad for Cheechoo given that he's making more this year than I will in the next 20 (and that's accounting for cost-of-living raises of, oh, 2-3% per year); but it's still a shame. His cap space will accommodate Cullen with a little bit left over, but not enough to cover the difference between Picard and Lee's salaries. So when Campoli gets back on the roster, perhaps it's Derek Smith who will stick around, assuming all other things being equal.

P.S. Poll added.

The NHL Scoreboard is usually a good place to check. They list all the networks for every game, and since they own all the games, they should know.

Hey, Dash, I know Neely poo-pood my idea of asking Lehner about Alfie versus Lidstrom for Team Sweden captain, but you weren't curious? And, forgetting about politics and such, Alfie *is* the NHL's longest-serving Captain, and *is* the first European born Captain in the SCF. Plus his game is still at the top (leading the team in scoring yet again) while Lidstrom is certainly showing the signs of aging.

Anyhow, tonight we'll see a match up of two Swedish Captains. In the past those were usually pretty good games.

nhl.com only shows (msg plus) for the OTT/NYI game. A quick check through my tv guide shows different. nhl ci will carry the game as well as msg.

Well, in that case, I'm glad my post said "should" Smile Maybe they'll update it tomorrow?
