The Sens played a near perfect road game but they just didn't catch any bounces but they still came away with a point. Auld was awesome and I think him getting in and playing like that before a long lay off is important. Spezza had a very solid game, IMO his best of the year. Michalek is a friggin beast.

Defensivly I thought Cowen and Lee were the best pairing. Those two are looking more and more like the perfect pair. They both skate well, move the puck well, are big bodies who like to take the man. When they hit puberty they could very well be the best shut down tandom in the NHL.

Made me spill my coffee! Dammit! Good thing I'm wearing a dark-colored sweater. Laughing3

I feel Cowen is still not playing to the level I expected of him *physically*. Doesn't look as tall or as big as he used to. Could he have lost some weight in training camp? Or is it simply the huge adjustment from playing in Junior (and a few games in Bingo)? Lee took a few years to develop in that respect so there's still time, of course.

If you play like A Train each night the physical aspect will takes it toll on a player. Cowen, while physical at times is actually playing a way smarter game than I thought he would be at 20. More of a Chris Phillips type game with a bit more of an edge and size. There is something to be said for being able to play a very good defensive game and stay healthy at the same time. You could pretty much gaurantee that if the playoffs roll around, that's the type of guys that going to be hell to play against.

As for Lee, he had to change his game and he did. That's a big part of development, finding out what works and what doesnt. Good for Lee because he looks good.
Pronger is the pro at this. He uses his size and position so well that he's never running around too much and burning up all his energy. He's one of the most "efficient" players out there which is why he can log mad minutes.

Exactly. When people say Cowen is a Pronger in the making this is what they mean. He might have the offense (although that might eventually come with time and expierence) but he has the ability to use his assets to hus full advantage.

Don't like the idea of Cowen fighting a whole lot though, no need for it.

Some guys are just predisposed to having the odd fight, and I think it's some form of a leadership quality. This is likely a holdover from junior.

Lecavalier, Iginla…hell even Kovalchuk drops the mitts occasionally.

I think the only thing you have to worry about with Cowen is him breaking his hand when he fights…he seems to be able to handle himself quite well.

I agree but having said all that, you can replace a forward for 5 mins much easier than a D man, especially a top 4. Sometimes a fight is needed for any amount of reasons but for the most part he will need to stay on the ice.

Cowen will likely max out around 4 fights per year, and that's fine...as long as the timing isn't bad.

anyone notice how our PP looked waaay better when phillips and kuba started manning the point? and Z. SMith and Contra were on the PP? That's saying something, and good on Paul Maclean to try that and get some better chances. They kept it simple. Too bad Smith shots some pucks wide.

Are you telling me that Chris Phillips was out on the PP? On purpose?

Yup....and he looked all right actually.

I just don't know how anyone can like Dean Brown's play-calling.

haha he's not that bad in my books. He doesn't get overly excited like he's having an orgasm when the home team scores. His reaction is the same for great plays by either team.

Him and Galley were perfect together.

You don't like anything, so I understand why YOU don't like it. What you need to understand is that there are people on this planet who actually enjoy things.

When Dean's not going off on tangents with an inept co-worker, he does a fine job of actually CALLING the action. I don't understand why you think he isn't a good play-by-play guy, but that sort of thing is subjective I guess.

but that's what he does 80% of the game

and his voice is gut wrenching. His constant regurgitating of stats that mean nothing. Saying players who are in a scrum are just "discussing" or some crap like that.

I might even prefer Lee Versage at this point. Laughing3 Ok no I can't say that with a straight keyboard.

I hope Dean gets promoted to the CBC like Galley did.

Actually I'll take Dean every day of the week over AJ Jakubek. Wow that's an awful PBP man.

Laugh1 I'd agree but the exception is anything related to Crosby. Hence, Pittsburgh announcers are just fine.

Nope they're quite bad. The only good Pittsburgh broadcaster is Mike Lange but he is only doing radio now. (He's the gut with the legendary goal calls).

I find he has a pretty good voice for play-by-play. And all hockey commentators regurgitate meaningless stats. If I have to hear about the Sens' winning % in games where Phillips scores a goal one more time, I'll throw my cat through my TV.

I also like Galley. He does a good job doing colour commentary, and his radiowork was lightyears beyond what we're now stuck with (York).

Dave Schreiber is an incredible broadcaster. They should give him some TV time.

Wow, that gut must truly be legendary if you can tell it on the radio.
