How about Colorado or Toronto (just to name two)? Why wouldn't they be interested?

I'm not saying they wouldn't be interested at all, but I doubt they throw picks Ottawa's way to try to sign him to an offer sheet. Why bother? There will be more seasoned goaltenders available in the summer without poaching a 23 year old who may or may not turn out - giving up picks in the process.

If Toronto wants a quick fix, then sign Khabby to a 1 year. Or Colorado for that matter. Throw 5 million at him for one year and hope it works.

You just gave 5 million reasons why they might try to snag Elliott instead.

Lehtonen and Harding are way more likely target.

Yeah, but Colorado can put it together in one summer and compete. They need a major league stop gap while they purge their system of Budaj and Raycroft (unless Budaj remains as backup).

Khabibulin, Fernandez, Biron, Roloson, Niittymaki, Lehtonen, Harding - are all more viable options for a club that wants back into contention.

Lehtonen is re-signed by the Thrashers with Pavelec as backup, Harding remains in Minny.

Avs or Leafs make offer of 1MM to 1.25 to Elliott...not impossible.

Why the heck would Atlanta want to go forward with Lehtonen? I don't understand that (not you, it's them, they apparently want to do it). Get a real goalie. Get Harding. He's the real deal.

Never going to happen, besides Murray wouldn't let him walk over 150K-400K

Over 400K maybe, then?

...and consider that both Francois Giguere and Brian Burke have major issues in goal. Elliott has been playing like a winner, and he's clearly a competitor.

Budaj is an RFA, and Raycroft's a UFA. They make 800K each. So Giguere has to do something, and he doesn't have a lot of cap room. Elliott could win the #1 job there in a walk.

As he could in Toronto.

And consider Alex Auld makes 1MM. Playing 1.25 or even 1.5MM for Elliott doesn't seem so outrageous, does it?

I suppose anything's possible Dave. I don't see it personally, not yet On his next contract, say if we were to only sign him for a year - and at the end of that and he wins 45 games with a 2.38 GAA and a .919 because Leclaire is hurt all year. Then I could see some offer sheets coming in, but as it stands now? I'd personally go hard after Harding.

504H, not saying that teams will chase Elliott, but the kid's racking up a pretty decent record, and good young goalies at affordable prices are something every GM keeps an eye out for. IMHO Elliott's earning some attention.

Consider also that Murray may be keeping his options open in case Elliott does get an offer sheet he doesn't want to match. A Leclaire-Auld tandem isn't bad either.

agree, I think it is possible but I would rather have Murray lock him before we even get to July 1

If Leclaire is injured and Elliott is tearing it up elsewhere than in the organization, I will feel something not really comfortable in my stomach :!:

With him setting the record for most wins in a row by a rookie in his rookie season that's all the more reason to get him signed before July 1.

Fair enough. I guess Murray will have to keep all options open. I think if push came to shove Murray would match the offer sheet to be honest. We haven't nurtured this kid to let some other team come in and offer 1.5 and get away with it.

No team is going to make an offer sheet to an unproven rookie goalie to come in and be their number 1. Only a GM looking to get fired.

The other side of the coin would mean that Auld would have to go. I doubt Murray is going to want to pay Elliott possibly 1.5+ to play in the minors.

I think Auld is honestly as good as gone, no point in having Elliott in Bingo. Lets try and develope a guy down there as well...

RobbyJ, no disrespect, but are you saying Elliott's unproven?

And how about the 'unproven' goalies who are #1's, like Steve Mason and Pekka Rinne?

Think about it, my friend...Elliott's stock is on the rise.
