THeir's no controversy when you have shiet as your #1. I'm not going to defend Gerber ever again. HE's more inconsistant than he is consistant.

He is indeed, who would've thunk it would've happened this early?? ME!

Yes you did. From the end of last year to now I can vouch for that.

Gerber Sucks

.

There's no controversy.

Ottawa WILL grab a goalie at the Trade deadline...provided we're still in contention for a playoff spot....Bulin if he's available, if not...I'm not sure but I know that this it for Gerb's, nice guy and all aside, this is business and I say waive him if there's no takers.

Now, before I elborate, I want to clarify: I'm NOT happy that Gerber is f**ked in a way, where he is a human being and failure and such hurts everyone; BUT, what I DO mean is, all he has to do is look in the mirror and realize who's to blame... Emery's not around. Auld (from what I have heard) has been an exemplary teammate and encouraged and supported Gerber at every turn, so essentially, it's all on him, in terms of his poor performance that is. Confidence, schmofidence...

as soon as that story broke last year how Gerber had to be "told and assured" he's number 1, I lost every bit of respect (Hockey respect) I had for the guy...

I didn't like that comment either Smash. I was very disappointed to hear that. It hasn't done him any good anyways. He's still letting in softies. So much for that theory.

Long time no chat...

If only Ottawa had a goalie coach who could help Gerber through this time. The problem is E.W. is preaching the style Gerber plays and that's butterfly, and try to make yourself look big so the puck HITS you. A perfect example was the goal scored by Horton last night. Gerber was in the right position and everything, but rather than move his glove to try to catch the shot by Horton, he stayed in E.W.'s recommended position and hoped it would hit him or his glove.

Get a new goalie, but unless you get a new coach as well we're doomed to repeat past failures. Hell at least Emery made a save, not just got in the way.

Oh and before i forget....on the bright side. At least this is the last year we have to deal with Gerbers contract, but Chicago is just now realizing that they have 3 more years after this one of Huet's horrible contract. Huet's the next Gerber.

Oh wow, if that's true, that's going to dethrone the Chicago empire for sure.

Wasn't Eli Wilson brought in because of his relationship with Emery, I'm somewhat surprised he's still around..

He's one of the top goalie coaches in the world though. Carey Price, Tim Thomas...the list goes on and on of goalies that work/worked with him.

It does indeed...almost 100% positive..I'll have to scan through it quickly though to verify.
Well, it says he COULD start. here's the relevant text for those too lazy to read...

Wink
While he maintained Martin Gerber is still the No. 1 goaltender,
Hartsburg told reporters this morning that if Alex Auld plays well
tomorrow against the Anaheim Ducks at Scotiabank Place, then he could
start Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of
the Battle of Ontario.
This should be interesting...

I have a feeling that if you replace a goalie, you should do it sooner into the season than later. I can't see that bringing in a goalie at the deadline can help. Both the goalie and the team need to develop some chemistry and understand how the other plays.

Don't tell that to Roloson and the Oilers two years ago.

That's true... but they didn't win it all, though getting inured was never part of the plan.

But I'd rather have the goalie we need now, not a month before playoffs. Give him some time to get used to the teams style.

It's all speculation anyways. The list of goalies that are on the market is about as insignificant as it gets.

  • Manny Fernandez
  • Nikolai Khabibulin
  • Mikka Kiprusoff

Only one? I'd bet certainly. My bet is Boston will have to choose between the two as Rask is going to be the backup. Toskala and Lehtonen could be on the move depending how the season goes. I'd take either of them in Ottawa. Hell, right about now I'd rather park my dusty old ten speed bicycle in the crease than have Gerber.
