I honestly didn't think the team would be this good this soon. I thought the playoffs were a possibility but they are proving just how good they already are and will continue to be.

Maybe not this good this soon but it was pretty clear the team was looking to improve rather than endure some pain for success in a "few years." I love listening to those idiots on the Team keep repeating how we're in a rebuild and that as "knowledgeable fans" we understand the need to be patient and so on...

I've been saying this for months. Why would anyone want to commit long-term to New Jersey, except for dirty Russians who find NJ reminds them of dirty Moscow (Kovalchuk, Volchenkov).

Parise could play in a much nicer city AND make more money if he goes to free agency. So, why wouldn't he?

Pretty much.

Last year Murray did exactly what was needed and the fact his draft picks have been gold to this point make things easier.

A guy that they may very well sell high on is Stone.

Did people see this article:

http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2012/01/devils_zach_parise_money_matte.html

Parise told The Star-Ledger today that money will be a significant consideration when negotiations for a new contract begin, but his feeling about whether the Devils have a legitimate chance to eventually win a Stanley Cup will probably be the overriding factor.

“For me that’s probably the biggest thing,” Parise said. “The money is definitely important. That’s real life, let’s face it. I’m not going to say it’s not. That’s realistic. But most important for me is being competitive and having a chance to win the Stanley Cup.”

NEELY wrote:Sens need to make a serious push for him. If they sign him they could very well land Suter in the off season as well if they make a serious push.

No way we could afford both Suter and Parise and be able to keep what we have right now. With the possibility of a lockout I think teams will be very careful until the new CBA is in place, the cap could go down for example.

I think Parise will sign with a southern team with lots of palm trees (Florida, LA etc)

If that's the lube it takes to get a big deal done, I say: "Make it so."

Kuba would be gone... 3.7 mil right there. Alfi and Gonchar are on the last years of their deal, that's another 10 mil free'd right there. Add in they have 10 plus mil of cap space... they absolutely could.

He could go just about anywhere for sure. Including Ottawa.

The cap is supposed to go down every year according to various posters in this forum and it just keeps going up. This is a growing league in terms of revenue and interest. Budgets will play a bigger role going forward.

It's very interesting that you say that, because I am worried about how he will transition to the NHL. We've all seen guys that blow up junior, and then fail to crack an NHL roster, destined for life in the minors.

I think with Stone, the concern is that he's never really that noticeable until he's burying the puck in the net. He's not OVERLY physical and he doesn't have blazing speed. He has TONS of finish, and good hockey sense...reminds me a lot of Heatley (minus the douchiness). Not that it's a bad thing to have a Heatley on your team (we remember what he did with Spezza), but without some other attributes, you're a pretty one-dimensional player.

Anyway, I've only really seen Stone at the World Jrs, so I don't even really know what I'm talking about, and I hope my concern is unwarranted. His stock is pretty high right now though!

Well Bettman is pushing for a lower percentage %, look at how many teams are struggling to stay in the black, if the cap keep going up like this it'll be like the pre-cap era.

It also keeps going up because the NHLPA can (and does) request a 5% increase.

This is why winning is good for the rebuild.

First - holy Dung, first time I've heard a reputable source like Bobby Mac say something like that. Second, absolutely we should be in on both Suter and Parise - and we can afford it without question. I find it silly that people think Parise and Suter wouldn't even look at Ottawa - especially considering this has to be looked at as a beautiful blueprint on how to do a proper re-tool/re-build whatever people are calling it. This Ottawa team has been turning heads all season and definitely continues to do so with their player's coach, guys like Alfie, Spezza and now especially Karlsson. I doubt anyone thought Ottawa would be as solid as they are this quickly, but now that they are, we have to be on the radar of some of these big name players.

Suter would be great, everything Ottawa needs to create a stunning top 2 pairings, but Parise....now there's the franchise catch that would be unreal.

Don't forget the CBA is expiring and the new one will undoubtedly dial things back a little in terms of spending. Apparently the % of revenus that NHL players currently get via salary is about 58%. Compared to the NFL and NBA, which hover around 50-52%. So things will be dialled back, just hard to say by how much. Good God, I hope we don't have another lockout…just when things are looking great for the Sens.

I think the growing revenues could offset a drop in the percentage. Either way, the cap is not an issue for Ottawa and they will most certainly add a big fish to their lineup as a result.

I think Suter and Parise will be traded if they're not resigned by the deadline.

I doubt either GM will let such a player walk away for free.

I was gonna say that, yeah. And the team that gives up a 1st + prospect + to get either one will likely make a major push to re-sign. That's why I don't like banking on UFAs, but...if they're around when July 1 comes around, I'm sure we'll be in on them with bells on.

In all honesty, I think the guy the Sens end up with is Bobby Ryan if there is a big named winger coming back. Fits into Ottawa plans like a glove.

I think this is the perfect year to give up that 1st. You can pick up a guy young enough via trade that you don't need to pick anyone.

Problem there is we're competing with 15 other teams and the price might be too high, but yes, him or Perry would be great.
