Will the Sens be "all-in" on Zach Parise?

Do we really have an owner willing to spend ? While he spent $5M on a new scoreboard he wouldn't take on Brassard's $3.2M contract.

We probably won't be spending much beyond re-signing EK for the next while.

Yes, we clearly have an owner willing to spend assuming he thinks that we have a legit shot at the Stanley Cup. It's only natural that we'd be on a budget in the years where we are rebuilding and attendance has dropped (last year, not sure about attendance this year).

From Dan Seguin twitter yesterday: #Sens attendance up 7% so far this year from last year. Fewer than 6,500 tickets remaining for the clubs next 7 home games.

Yes, if it's for a piece like Parise or Suter (or both), yes he will.

We are all assuming this because we are a playoff team right now. Let's see what happens in february.
No matter what anyone thinks we're one Karlsson injury away from 12th-13th in the East, and you don't trade your 1st and best forward prospect when you're a bubble team at best.

To be honest, I'd rather just get Suter in the off season.

I don't think we're at the stage where we are close to a legit shot and should spend just yet. After spending to the cap the past few years Melnyk will probably take it easy for a while.

The 1st rounder + Zibanejad deal was just a thought posted here. I don't think NJ would accept that deal for Parise (let's face it, neither of those are proven players). If NJ is going to trade Parise (or if Nash is going to trade Suter), the deal will have to include NHL-ready players as well as picks/prospects.

I think the bottom line here is Murray will see what he can get via free agency before he decides to start wheeling and dealing prospects/picks to make the team a contender. In theory, we're still a couple years away.

You may be right. That said, if Parise does make it to free agency, he's a hard player NOT to take a run at. He is the perfect complement for Spezza, and I guess(?) is a good character guy as well (he has the "C" after all).

Another positive with him is that he's been pretty good in the playoffs, which is something that Ottawa would certainly consider.

Just focus on making the playoffs and getting better every game. THat's the best argument for free agents. Karlsson too.

Do we know that he wouldn't take on Brassards contract, or is it a matter of there was no deal to be had. I'm sure if Columbus wanted say, future considerations for Brassard, we'd have snapped him up.

Seems to me that corporate sponsors kicked in at least a considerable amount for the scoreboard, if not the whole wad.

Any updates on the Parise and Suter to Ottawa rumour?

Yep. Between Bell, Panasonic, and god knows who else, I don't think the Sens had to pay too much towards the new HD screens.

I'm trying to buy the old one. It would look nice in my backyard.

Robert "Bob" McKenzie said this morning on Team 990 that Parise probably won't be returning to the Devils.

Sens need to make a serious push for him. If they sign him they could very well land Suter in the off season as well if they make a serious push.

This is why winning is good for the rebuild.

Of course it is. Winning is always good. People are so blind that they couldn't see this team was built to start winning as soon as they committed to Greg Andersen.

I honestly didn't think the team would be this good this soon. I thought the playoffs were a possibility but they are proving just how good they already are and will continue to be.

Maybe not this good this soon but it was pretty clear the team was looking to improve rather than endure some pain for success in a "few years." I love listening to those idiots on the Team keep repeating how we're in a rebuild and that as "knowledgeable fans" we understand the need to be patient and so on...

I've been saying this for months. Why would anyone want to commit long-term to New Jersey, except for dirty Russians who find NJ reminds them of dirty Moscow (Kovalchuk, Volchenkov).

Parise could play in a much nicer city AND make more money if he goes to free agency. So, why wouldn't he?
