I think there might be a hidden message when KK said "he needs to do the righ things without the puck". Well eating and thinking off the ice is what he meant, he doesn't have the puck at that point.

I think someone should point that out to them and give him their opinion because he cares. This like past post would not be creepy at all.

Were you born an bunghole or did you have to train up?

I wonder if it's his workout/eating regime because from most accounts he's been pretty decent away from the puck. I noticed KK's comments as well: "Filatov has the tools w/ the puck, there's no concern about that..what we are trying to do his round out his game more away from the puck..if we can get that through to him then boy are we going to have one special player.."

That's why we signed vets like Parrish, hopefully we can get him on the right program, but he's in good hands down there.

He wasn't being serious, he was just trying to have a laugh at my expense.

Def have to train up to come at someone with that much sarcasim.

Anyways, not really sure how you could possibily call someone that (true or not) after you post the crap you did on a professional hockey players blog/social network/w/e the hell else it is. Honestly, I can't believe you value your opinion that highly to the point you call out someone who plays hockey for a living. Not only that, you suggest that you know what's best and what is meant by optional practice. Were you in the dressing room after the game? Were you there when KK talked to Filatov. Kid has been playing non stop for 5 weeks on top of all that.

You think these players are complete robots and jsut because they play a game for a living and make good money doing it, they have to stop being human. It's unreal the amount of ignorance and arrogance you display. You're like that hockey dad that doesn't know jack Dung but truly thinks he does.

I didn't call him out. I simply said that "Optional" is sometimes what a coach would use to test the players' commitment. It was strictly advice and not a condemnation. What I said here, following his reply, well, another story altogether, but don't accuse me of doing something I did not do.

You know, you come across like you know everything. I usually accept that when it comes to hockey, so if you had said it's quite common for players to skip the optional practice, because it is an unwritten rule that those practices are for the likely healthy scratches, then I'd accept that (even though I'd heard different). But you cam out saying who the hell was I to state my opinion to a professional hockey player. Well, in my best Steve Martin voice: EXCUUUUUUUUSE ME!

NEELY, since you clearly did not take the time to read what I said (as evidenced by your tone and what you say about me in your last paragraph), I'll repeat it here:

Joy is the Bingo beat writer (@PSBJoyOnTheSens on twitter). "Optional" sometimes is a way to test a player's commitment level. Better not to miss, especially first week.

The question that started all this was me saying something along the lines of "Joy didn't mention you being at practice, were you there?" The reason for that was because Joy very specifically said it was a "semi-optional" practice.

I can tell you for a fact that I have not spoken to KK, but I'm pretty sure that Joy has, quite a few times, being the B-Sens beat writer for the local paper. For her to specifically say it was a "semi-optional" practice is meaningful. 7 players attended that practice, which means at least 5 who played the night before did so (they were carrying 22 before Grachev was sent down).

You know what, say it was "semi-optional", does that mean the coach didn't specifially talk to Filatov about it? He's been non stop for 5 weeks not to mention he had to pack up, move out of Ottawa, move to Bingo all within 48 hours... seems an optional skate is a little less important than finding a hotel/apartment and settle into the new city.

Like a lot of other fans, you forget that these are real people who actually need to eat, sleep, and Dung.

I'm not like a lot of other fans. I clearly realize these are real people. He could have clearly answered my *initial* question (when I asked if he was at practice) by saying that he had lots of things to take care of related to the move to Bingo, and KK said it was no problem to miss practice that particular day. Would have stopped there. I'm more than willing to give him slack and benefit of doubt.

Either way, I think this might be the root of the issue. If he's not performing off-ice (ie away from the puck), Mac would have benched him and KK will bench him soon enough. It could be that he's not practicing hard enough, it could be his diet, it could be a lot of things, but I have a feeling KK wasn't referring to his back-checking.
