They will know before the draft.

No way I'd give up Campoli.. no yet..

I'm thinking Campbell for Kuba, Lee and Shannon (or Obrien) is fair.

they may even know now... just dont' want to annouced as it may show them at a weakness for trades if teams think they are against the cap.

Yup, very well could have already come to some sort of agreement. That being said I would also take Cullen 100 times out of 100 over Sharp.

Sharp might be a guy The Sens and the fans want, Campbell is a guy The Sens need. People will look at the price tag and grumble but the fact of the matter is adding Campbell would benifit a fast skating team up front along with a fairly slow defense at the back. Michalek is a nice player but he doesnt add much to The Sens would lead me to believe he is a missing piece, Campbell does.

Put it this way Campbell is less over paid at 7.1 mil then A Train will be at 5 mil and not by a little. Campbell might be over paid by about a mil, A Train pretty close to 2. If he has Green as his partner next year, WOW will he look like a bad signing.

That's a huge if right now though.

Fair, this deal won't happen until the draft anyway, so we'll know by then if Cullen is in the fold or not. He's the guy I want badly, but I've wanted Sharp for the last 3 years. If we can acquire Sharp, I would think long and hard about letting Cullen walk.

Or I'd move someone like Kovalev to make it happen. Sharp AND Cullen AND Campbell without losing too much? Count me in!

Cullen is a better player then Sharp with the expierence he has and what he brings inside the dressing room.

Maybe actually. And the way Fisher, Alfie and him work is magic. If you can acquire Sharp with Campbell, you're adding what some might consider your leader down the road though. As everyone has said, this team needs to be insulated with winners if we're to keep Spezza - and I believe we should.

I don't know, it's tricky. Far too tricky to really get down to on the net, only Murray knows what the other piece could be coming back from Chicago if this was even to happen. Byfuglien interests me big time in that he's massive and he plays both D and F - and a mean D I might add. And he's right handed, something we have very little of (of consequence anyway).

That's intriguing, I never really thought of that. Also, the later you announce a re-signing or trade, the more excitement from the fan base, the more season tickets + interest.

The only announcements Sens fans can expect are the addition of 6 new varieties of ham to the menu of the Sandwichery Eatatorium located behind section 220.

You need to spend money on your blueline man, haha, Ottawa has so much depth up front right now that IMO, with one good puck mover on the back end along with KArlsson, you have pretty close to a contender.

EDIT: Leclaire has to be consistant and play in the playoffs like he did. We all know the tallent is there, just can he stay healthy.

Well, we're acquiring Campbell in this scenario. That's a major acquisition. Maybe just Chicago's 1st rounder will do it, but I can't help salivating at the thought of them sending us another useful piece.

Taking on 10 million is near impossible.

just this to add to the actual michalek volchie part:

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports the anemic production of pending UFA forward Raffi Torres down the stretch and in the playoffs with the Buffalo Sabres could have a tough time finding a lucrative contract this summer...The Predators will come up with the money to re-sign RFA forward Patric Hornqvist but cannot afford to re-sign UFA defenseman Dan Hamhuis. Matheson suggests he'd be a good fit with the Minnesota Wild...Matheson believes it's possible Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek could join his brother with the Ottawa Senators this summer...The Washington Capitals will allow Jose Theodore, Brendan Morrison and Shaone Morrisonn to walk away via free agency and have to decide if they'll trade RFA forward Tomas Fleischmann, who had a poor playoff series against Montreal.

oh and i would love to believe you guys when you think we can have cambell plus their first for kuba, foligno and ruutu but your dreaming!!!
as much as chicago needs the cap space you're forgetting that there are at least a dozen teams that would consider bringing the cambell contract in. sure they'd have to trade some of players too but i'm sure there will be a better pitch then this one.

heck brian Burke might re-vamp his blue line once again Laugh1

seriously, i'm sure the 1st rounder would probably have to come from us and not the other way around. which i'm not into.

i agree that O'brian is a good idea to add in the deal. can we throw in there hennessy evil

When the stakes are high, he doesn't really excel. Campbell's playoff numbers are a little worrisome.

I won't be home until 9:30 tonight, someone keep an eye on Campbell? I would like to see him under duress - and this is pressure tonight.

all and all, i agree with N4L an a few of others that in replacing volchie we need a true #1 PMD. that would elevate our first pairing so much more then what it was with Philips/volchie.

Take my word for this Flo, that deal is more than enough to land Campbell. I don't think you appreciate the disaster that is the Hawks cap this summer. Not only he has to go, but Huet and one of Byfuglien, Versteeg or Sharp (so guess who's not being traded out of that - Sharp).

They have 57 million dollars committed to 14 players, so they need to add 7 players and they have -700K to do it. You have to think about that for a second, it's absolutely horrendous circumstances. Subtract Huet and Campbell and they're still at 45 million dollars - and they would only (theoretically) have 12 places filled for that amount. So that leaves 12 million dollars for 9 players. That is BAD news.

Lastly, Campbell has a NTC where he submits a list of 8 teams and the Hawks can go from there. How many teams in the league can you think of that need a guy like this?

Columbus (BIG TIME), Phoenix (but they won't be allowed to acquire that big a ticket this summer), Dallas (team is bankrupt right now), Tampa Bay, Edmonton (once Souray is gone), NJ Devils and Ottawa. Now, I'm as level headed as anyone when it comes to where a player may 'choose' to play isn't always your hometown, BUT, in this case, I would say we would have an excellent chance of being the only team on his list of 8 that can afford him - unless you think places like Big D and Columbus would interest a guy like Campbell.

Ill say this though, if Chicago actually wants a favorable deal for Campbell then no, I wouldnt do it. He's the perfect guy to add IMO, just at very little cost. I dont want people to think Im pumping Campbell's tires like "we haaaaaaaaave to get him".

If Michalek comes here for like 3 mil x 4 years, they ya, I would do that over Campbell, but Campbell is the better player and people shouldnt think otherwise, just not 4 plus mil better... maybe 3 though.
