all and all, i agree with N4L an a few of others that in replacing volchie we need a true #1 PMD. that would elevate our first pairing so much more then what it was with Philips/volchie.
GM Hockey
POLL: Zbynek Michalek or Anton Volchenkov

as much as chicago needs the cap space you're forgetting that there are at least a dozen teams that would consider bringing the cambell contract in. sure they'd have to trade some of players too but i'm sure there will be a better pitch then this one.
i wasn't aware he had a NTC... that does change things a bit.SpezDispenser wrote:Flo The Action wrote:oh and i would love to believe you guys when you think we can have cambell plus their first for kuba, foligno and ruutu but your dreaming!!!

Take my word for this Flo, that deal is more than enough to land Campbell. I don't think you appreciate the disaster that is the Hawks cap this summer. Not only he has to go, but Huet and one of Byfuglien, Versteeg or Sharp (so guess who's not being traded out of that - Sharp).
They have 57 million dollars committed to 14 players, so they need to add 7 players and they have -700K to do it. You have to think about that for a second, it's absolutely horrendous circumstances. Subtract Huet and Campbell and they're still at 45 million dollars - and they would only (theoretically) have 12 places filled for that amount. So that leaves 12 million dollars for 9 players. That is BAD news.
Lastly, Campbell has a NTC where he submits a list of 8 teams and the Hawks can go from there. How many teams in the league can you think of that need a guy like this?
Columbus (BIG TIME), Phoenix (but they won't be allowed to acquire that big a ticket this summer), Dallas (team is bankrupt right now), Tampa Bay, Edmonton (once Souray is gone), NJ Devils and Ottawa. Now, I'm as level headed as anyone when it comes to where a player may 'choose' to play isn't always your hometown, BUT, in this case, I would say we would have an excellent chance of being the only team on his list of 8 that can afford him - unless you think places like Big D and Columbus would interest a guy like Campbell.
N4L wrote:Ill say this though, if Chicago actually wants a favorable deal for Campbell then no, I wouldnt do it. He's the perfect guy to add IMO, just at very little cost. I dont want people to think Im pumping Campbell's tires like "we haaaaaaaaave to get him".
If Michalek comes here for like 3 mil x 4 years, they ya, I would do that over Campbell, but Campbell is the better player and people shouldnt think otherwise, just not 4 plus mil better... maybe 3 though.

i was in no way debating the fact they need to ship him but without a NTC there might have been more options to send him to. i remember when he hit FA he said he would of played for ottawa. so maybe then. i still don't see Chicago packaging him and their 1st together. here's to the possibility:ttt:
we should try and get sharp in the deal. especially if they want rutuu in the big deal. would all this place fisher in a situation where we would trade him?

guess it's looking less and less probable that mich 2 re-signs with the yotesMatthew Lombardi, Zbynek Michalek, Lee Stempniak and Derek Morris are their key free agents. Lombardi and Stempniak are willing to return, but Michalek, in an interview with the Republic, sounded as though he’ll hit the market.

Oh well, man oh man, if we can get him, we're laughing. People here who don't know what he brings will be shocked. He blocks shots with close to the same verve as Volchenkov, but his passes are better, he's better at clearing the zone and he's got some untapped offence IMO.
N4L wrote:The more I read on Michalek the more I hear just how good he might be. It will be interesting to see if Murray goes out and get this guy because the more I hear and read, the more I'm sold.
Still like Campbell though just fitting him in with that contract could still be really tough.
