See the "Fire Carvel" thread.

Where do I peruse that?
You'd have to create a new thread called "Fire Carvel".

For the record, I had said I want Michael Lehner to be goalie coach, he said no, I said why not.

Conflict of interest and conflict.

Right now, why not?: Sends the wrong messages to our current goaltenders. Lehners a prospect, hes no guarantee to make an NHL career. I hope/think he will but you cant make that commitment when hes 18. Just cant.

Later, why not?: Its premature to say this wouldnt be a good idea later if Lehner becomes a legitimate young number 1 goalie at the age of 21. I dont like the messages it would inevitably send to the other goalies in our franchise. No matter how neutral Michael Lehner could claim to be or how much someone could guarantee me Michael Lehner would have absolutely 0 preference in his son (think Sandlers dads court testimony in Big Daddy), hiring the goalies dad is just a can of worms waiting to happen. Whether it happens or not, too much of a risk Id say.

If Robin Lehner becomes one of the top 10 or so goalies in the league and would like to be guided by his dad, at that point you could say Robin would have the leverage to ask for something like that. Ill also say I dont know Robin, Michael, their history beyond that they are father and son, father mentored Lundqvist and obviously guided his son as well. Maybe neither of them would want it, maybe they both would. Maybe the situation makes sense down the road, maybe its completely bogus.
You really got a thing for Lehner eh? Dude... I think you're in love. Wink

yeah i noticed that man-love too.
lehner is a good prospect, but you are setting yourself up for disappointment by putting all these expectations on him.

Good article in the Citizen on Eli Wilson's tenure...

http://communities.canada.com/ottawacitizen/blogs/hockeycapital/archive/2010/01/13/firing-eli-wilson-won-t-solve-senators-problems-but-it-s-a-good-start.aspx

Not a single goalie he has coached has helped improve the team.

I disagree. Lehner will be a star NHL goalie.

He very well could be, and I think we're all hoping he will be, but only time will tell.

yeah and daigle was supposed to be great too... just saying to let him develop and not put too much pressure on him (not that he reads this)

Yeah for sure. I think he's one guy that could have the biggest impact for the Sens in future years. From what I've seen and continue to see - and read - he's a top, top notch goaltender who has the size and agility to make us forget that this is a graveyard for goalies. Plus, he appears to have the mental makeup needed to be successful.

And last, but not least, his father tutored both him and Lundqvist (and more obviously) and you can already see he's in the same mold as Hank in terms of having a calm, steady style.

What's the saying in Batman, the night is darkest right before the dawn or something like that? I view Lehner as the dawn for the Sens. He'll be the guy to lead us back to the promised land (along with Karlsson, Cowen and hopefully Wiercioch and Silfverberg), but as we all know, it begins and ends with having a solid goalie, then filters through the D and the forwards.

So, maybe it's a little mix of a man-crush and an intense desire to have a 'hero' we can all feel proud and excited about for this team.

I was thinking about that as well. I dont' think it's a good idea to bring his dad in. It just seems like a disaster waiting to happen. As much as I'd love him to be the goalie coach here, I don't think it can happen. He'll still help Robin though no doubt about it.

how about hiring michael lehner as the goalie coach in bingo, and getting someone else temporarily for ottawa.

then if/when lehner is ready to start in ottawa we bring him up to ottawa

I hate the idea of fathers coaching their sons at any sort of elite level of sport past the age of 12.

what do you guys think of hiring Roland Melanson? the guy won the cup what, 3 times as a goaltender in NYI? he was the coach in montreal till gainey fired him.
i know MTL fans think they have the best of everything but this guy gets alot of credit over here.

Huh, I don't know that much about him or any other goalie coach. I like proven winners though.

Any word on his replacement? How about going with a familiar face like Rhodes or Tugnutt (is he still doing the broadcast gig?)
