Stoll would be a guy I would LOVE to have. I thought he was hurt to the tune of his career might never get back, but watching him recently - he's a nice player.

Garrioch is speculating that the sens are interested in a forward. What is this guy smoking? I mean really, with the emergence of Zach Smith, and the crazy depth we have on forward, that would be a waste of a trade.

Sens need an impact d-man. Especially if Volchie can't be re-signed.

Perhaps Murray is sending out the message that he wants a forward in order to make it less difficult for GMs to take advantage of Murray's situation and need for D?

Or packaging a few forwards for one better forward?

Our D is fine. People tend to ignore the fact that we have been near the least shots allowed in the league for most of the year.

I disagree, but I do agree that they can showcase some forwards for another big one (whitney in Carolina?). Regardless, you have to believe their priority is a d-man....Picard/Campoli can't be it, despite their improved defensive play.

Our D is decent and has been quite good lately but in no way do I think they stack up against the best in the East never mind the best in the league.

What kind of player would it take to make them that much better and what can you afford to give up that's of any value to acquire that player?

Kovalev apparently prefers LW (who the heck can figure it out?), he can play RW as well, but it's LW where he apparently excels, so that means our LWs are:

Michalek
Kovalev
Foligno
Ruutu

I would argue that Pittsburgh has a better D. They certainly aren't showing it this season when you look at the Stats but they have legitimate threats on the back end with Gonchar, Goligoski and Letang. That is what will hurt Ottawa in the playoffs IMO. I could be totally wrong because Carolina won the cup with a no name D but they had an off the charts performance by Ward to help that out.

If Kovalev is a LW then we need a RW badly. Seems to me he's always on the right on the PP, in particular. But what do I know?

What exactly is lacking in our current D? Then who brings that element and at who's expense?

If I knew that I'd be a GM LOL. Seriously though it's a good question and I'm not sure we have the pieces or if we do we can't afford to give them up for that D man.

Oh and for teams in the West with better D I would say Chicago, San Jose and Detroit to name 3.

Yeah, that's true. Our RWs look like: Alfredsson, Shannon, Neil, Cheechoo, so we could use an upgrade there for sure.

As for our D, we need a capable number one D-man to replace Kuba. But there's no chance that comes any time soon I don't think. It'll hurt us at some point, but right now it looks like everyone's banding together pretty well.

Let's just say that an upgrade to our wingers is the easier fix. How about that?

Getting a winger would be easier but I'm still afraid to go into the playoffs with this D group. Of course I thought the same thing in 06/07 with Meszaros and Redden and we still managed to reach the finals so who knows? Saprykin = WIN?
