I was talking to a Boston fan here at the office and we came to the conclusion that Boston may not have huge interest in this season's prospects and could potentially trade down or trade for a 1st in the next draft PLUS whatever they are looking for this season.

Anyone else?

Oh man... Ahhhhh!

That's just a couple of fans talking, of course.

I think the main benefit will be if we manage to shed some salary and some of these disappointing players making room for younger players who care.

I'm not worried too much on the return, I don't think it'll be as good as we want.

Making a significant change to the core of this time is the main goal.

Slightly less for Phillips. A 1st or a forward prospect + salary dump. For example, Huskins and a 1st from SJ.

We can all hope for a bidding war on Ruutu, but a 3rd sounds about right.

We can all hope for a bidding war on Kuba, but a 2nd and mid-level prospect sounds right.

If Gonchar agrees that it's not working...he could be worth a TON.

Campoli could easily garner a nice forward prospect, but in all honesty, I would keep him if he'll re-sign.

Depending on the offer, I think the Sens at least listen to offers for Michalek.

I think Foligno's in play this summer, but if someone's offering a forward prospect with big upside, obviously the Sens would do it.

Not sure about Regin, but I wouldn't do it personally. Nor Winchester or Carkner.

If the Kings were in on Fisher -- would you want Braydon Schenn or Tyler Toffoli + something else?

Kuba we can only hope.. but with the way he is playing who in the hell would want him. Are there any Mike Milbury's out there?

If Gonchar leaves after 1 season.. that's a big red flag for any UFA that may consider coming to Ottawa. When he started in Pitts I think his first year was terrible as well.

I like Campoli to stay. Other than last night.. he's played okay this season. I would also keep Michalek. He is still young and will be better next season when his knee is fully healed. An ACL surgery takes about a year to recover from. Also keep Foligno & Regin & Winchester.. they are still young and can develop.

Carkner may find himself the 7th D man next season: I'm hoping for a defense of:
Phillips/Karlsson
Gonchar/Campoli
Cowen/Rundblad.

That would be getting rid of Kuba.. trade or waive?

I'd take Schenn so quick, it wouldn't even be funny. I'd love that in all seriousness. I'd also gladly do Toffoli + Stoll for Fisher, but I doubt the Kings would be interested...

Kuba can be moved, it's just waiting until Phillips, Kaberle etc. are gone, then preying on the desperate for a 2nd rounder.

Probably about right. The D is inexperienced and softish, but it'll do while we re-tool.

Braydon Schenn would be awesome. And would that not piss off one Bryan Burke? It would be worth it just for that?

I don't pay much attention to Burke, he's made a horrendous amount of mistakes, so he should be pissed off all the time IMO.

Matthew Barry suggested Simmonds and Voinov for Fisher. Thoughts?

Hmmmm....Simmonds intrigues me a bit, Voinov I'm not familiar with. So with the info I have for both right now, I'd say no.

Seems like the Senators are generating interest in NHL cities around the league. Dreger was on The Team (radio) in Edmonton to discuss possible trades, for example.

I hope Phillips can get something like the Panthers got for Keith Ballard.

They got a 1st, Grabner, and Steve Bernier in the deal.

Ballard was/is signed to a contract though, this is purely a rental.

Likely a conditional pick on that basis.

Seriously, as a fan who is used to seeing players leave for nothing, I'll take something.

I didn't realize Voynov was a D-man, we probably need all forward prospects.

Depending on how good he is, he could simply make another D prospect more expendable or be an asset in a summer or deadline deal.

Simmonds alone would be a nice, physical winger to insulate Regin. He's also hit 40 points in the NHL already.
