I don't think you do unless it's a solid offer. Pavelski and I think we'd do it, but would the Sharks? Gonchar is a huge piece and IMO a fairly vital part of the Sens' future D - if only because it should be more of a puck possession style when Rundblad comes onto the scene. I think Gonchar can thrive in the next two seasons, but I also thought he would this year too. Tough call, it'll really depend on the return - and if Gonchar would even waive his NTC.

How's about Vancouver taking a run at Gonchar? Especially with Elder out indefinitely? I know that there are cap concerns.

That makes no sense at all. I dare you to think of a trade that works between vancouver and Ottawa that sees Gonchar ending up in Vancouver. I dare you??? Ridicuous suggestion!!!

That's why I listed "cap concerns". Sorry I didn't realize you were such an expert.

Spez, Pavelski for Gonchar? Why not ask for Staal from Pittsburgh? lol

Gonchar's not worth anything right now and he's likely not going to get any better.

Challenge accepted:

To Ottawa:
Keven Bieksa (3.75)
Mason Raymond (2.55)

To Vancouver:
Sergei Gonchar (5.5)
Jarkko Ruutu (1.2)

or

To Ottawa:
Keith Ballard (4.2)
M.Samuelsson (2.5)

To Vancouver:
Sergei Gonchar (5.5)
Jarkko Ruutu (1.2)

To Ottawa:
C.Schneider (0.9)
Keith Ballard or Bieksa (4.2 or 3.75)

To Vancouver:
Sergei Gonchar (5.5)
Brian Elliott (0.7)
2nd Round Pick 2012

There's probably a few more scenarios, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Depends on team needs. SJ needs someone like Gonchar or Phillips or Kuba (ha ha) very badly, their D doesn't have what it takes to propel them anywhere right now. With Gonchar, there's a little bit of pressure lifted off Boyle, there's more of a threat on the PP, the Sharks replace a little bit of Blake's lost leadership and a little bit of Ehrhoff's lost offence on the back end, while they move one of their pieces up front to make room for Couture.

Pavelski has taken a slight step back, but I agree it's a looooooooong shot, more likely Setoguchi + salary dump + high pick.

I think people really underestimate what a seasoned, champion veteran like Gonchar can bring back via trade, third year and poor play or not.

Big NO to Setoguchi and any dealings with SJ. It will cost them I high pick to get Gonchar... and NO to salary dump - It's like taking Cheecho all over again.

Big YES to a Setoguchi for Kuba trade though.

Part 5 or so of STD:

Headline: Rumour: Chris Phillips to Boston (e4) "very close"

Chiarelli apparently pushing hard for this...more to come...

STD Analysis: It fits as to Boston wanting him. Used to play with Chara, salary cap space available as I doubt Savard plays again and Chiarelli has shown a liking to players in this organization.

It fits and if Ottawa is true in its desire to rebuild, they won't care where they trade Phillips. It also may be that Phillips has agreed to waive his NTC to only Eastern teams. All in all, a very broad statement by Eklund that is conceivable.

What would the Sens get back? Can we add to get Joe Colborne in there?

I doubt it'll be dud in all seriousness, Phillips will go - or he'll be signed to an extension, either way is interesting.

Still think it'll be to SJ for Setoguchi.
