I still feel as is there's zero chance, but Bobby Ryan for Cowen + Foligno is one that's popped up (which isn't enough from Ottawa IMO), Savard for the usual suspects has popped up and Vokoun has popped up.

HOWEVER, these are almost entirely from third part sites that don't know what they're talking about - or from fans who are speculating and passing it off as official rumours.

I'll hand it to BDP, the guy knows how to catch people's interest.

You know what, I do like Leclaire and Elliott, but really, goaltending has always been Ottawa's achilles heel, and Murray's started to address team needs this off-season, first getting that elite puck-moving, offensive defenceman we've needed, so the next logical addition, if there's one to be made, is for an elite goaltender, and Vokoun is that guy I think.

Of course it would mean Leclaire would be moved, plus a 1st rnd pick and maybe one other piece, which depending on who/what that is, would be worth it.

Both players have only one year left anyways, and Pascal is cheaper, and Vokoun will certainly not re-sign in Florida, and Leclaire might have a hard time finding a job next year if he doesn't play fantastic.

The issues I have with that are:

1.Would Vokoun agree to a 4.5 X 4 with us? Because goalie prices are on the decline, but I'd still like to have him under contract renewal

2.What's the other piece? Is it Leclaire, our 1st and something like Foligno or Wiercioch? That price is getting slightly high.

3.Is Elliott not the guy to hold the fort until Lehner is ready?

4.When Lehner is ready in 2 1/2 seasons or whatever, does he come in as Vokoun's backup

5.If he comes in as Vokoun's backup, we trade Elliott I presume?

Elliott also has just the one year left and will be a RFA.

Vokoun is arguably a top 5 goalie in the NHL. He won't come cheap, but I don't see Ottawa giving up a lot of future for him. The other piece could be a veteran forward/defenceman, or a late pick.

Leclaire, 1st Round Pick + __________

That's the biggest question. If you were (who's their GM, Rick Dudley?), what would you ask for?

Realistically Florida is in a rebuilding year. Having just drafted Gudbranson and having 10 out of the first 99 picks this past year, I don't think they're too interested in a draft pick. They probably want a roster player with potential, especially given the apparent weakness of this year's draft. I wouldn't be shocked if it were Leclaire and Kelly/Foligno going the other way; two guys who can walk in and have an impact on a younger, less experienced team.

I hate doing this but Eklund is once again reporting that "a contender will make a major deal tomorrow which will change the dynamic of their conference..." Could this really be happening?

Florida is still a team that will not have a very high payroll, so I can't see them wanting salary back. They have a kid as their number 4 dman, in Kulikov, and then Paetsch, Garrison and Ellerby fighting for the two final spots. I could see them wanting a cheap dman.

Knowing DeBoer likes playing a quick, forechecking game, he'll want a speedy PMD, in my opinion. Campoli fits the bill. I also don't see us giving up Leclaire, Campoli, and a 1st. I'd love to have Vokoun, but he's not worth those three assets. The draft pick we give up, I highly doubt would be a 1st rounder.

You're setting the market value for Vokoun too high. You guys haven't learned anything over the last few years when it comes to goaltenders and trade value. Halak, who was literally the best goaltender of the playoffs last year, got a fringe future second liner and a question mark winger. And you're talking about a top 5 regular season goalie and the best playoff goalie last year.

It's weird. The market for goalies isn't what it used to be. Tallon could very well look to move Vokoun and let the youth run in Florida continue and give Markstrom, a top goaltending prospect in the world, the chance to play.

I think the Sens could get Vokoun for Foligno + 1st + salary dump.

Although I really want to believe in BDP's rumour, and am at the edge of my seat speculating about it, Ek is someone i just don't. I know you don't fully buy into him either, and it's more of a "i want to believe it" just like me.

Saying something like that, he sounds like a cheap Ms Cleo knock off. He's basically saying "There is someone in your life with the letter M". And he's expecting people to say "well i call my mom Mom!!" With his statement, he's not saying anything, at all. he hasn't even narrowed it down to a specific conference.

I don't care very much for Eklund as he's just a rumor proliferate, ie. he scours the internet for hockey rumors and tries to pass them on as his own.

This bdp guy on the other hand, has a long, long history of being exceptionally accurate about stuff. Some say he's related in some capacity (perhaps immediate family) to one of the Senators top scouts and as such has access to big time news before it hits the wire.

If he's saying that the Sens are in on something huge and he says he's not messing around with people this time, then you kind of have to put your faith in to him and wait it out. He said he wouldn't leave us hanging. To be honest, I'm not surprised that he won't share the details. Murray has had a complete blanket cast over the organization in the last two years and trades have seemed to literally appear out of nowhere.

Murray has something huge planned if we're to believe bdp. And to be honest, if we know anything about Murray, it's that none of the names we're suggesting are right. He's going left field on this one.

Okay, Kelly thrown in there I can buy I think. Perhaps another piece to go with it, but that's the gist.

Yeah sorry, I really didn't write very clearly. The Ms Cleo reference was talking about Eklund. BDP I want to believe because I'm starved for anything. Oh trust me. I don't believe him for a second. I never have. I read his site for Yost (and formerly M_Christoper) and happened to come across that.

Kelly I could see being a great fit in Florida. Younger guy with leadership qualities. I'd give up him and Leclaire, nothing else. No picks, no prospects, well maybe not nothing else. I'd throw in Shannon too if they wanted him.

Another team that is interesting to look at is New Jersey. They'll be desperate to dump salary when the Kovalchuk deal goes through. There will most likely need to be a third team that takes on salary though. It's an interesting thought, but hard to make something work out of it.

You're talking about a goalie who would turn this team into an Eastern conference favorite. There's a price to pay for that.

Here's some numbers to consider:

Vokoun's .925 save percentage last year was the third best in the NHL. His 2.55 GAA in the top 20 eventhough he was played for the third-last place team in the league last year.

Here's some more numbers: Brian Elliott faced 1424 shots last year. He allowed 130 goals for a .909 save percentage. With Vokoun's save percentage, that would have translated to 107 goals against, assuming the same number of shots against. A difference of 23 goals. Ottawa lost 10 games last year by 2 goals or less. That difference of 23 goals translates into 3 to 8 wins. Essentially the difference between winning the division and home ice and finishing second in the division with no home ice.

Vokoun would definately make a bigger impact on this team than Savard. Remmber when we had Hasek? It just felt like we could win every night and we didn't have to rely on our offense all the time. That didn't end well, but you get the point Smile
