NEW YORK - The Senators took a timeout in Central Park this morning.
Coming off a 6-1 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers, the Senators decided to use their offday to play European Handball, Dodgeball and had a shootout at the Trump Lasker Central Park Rink.
There were no coaches. The trainers played in goal. With the club in the midst of a five-game losing skid it was just a chance to get away for the Senators.
"It was nice to do something different," said Senators alternate captain Mike Fisher. "A good chance to skate in a nice place. Probably the best ice we've been on all year."
The session wrapped up with goalie Pascal Leclaire doing a dance move. The players all enjoyed themselves. "What we've been doing hasn't been working and producing wins. This was a nice way to do something different," said defenceman Chris Phillips.
The Senators were originally scheduled to practice at Chelsea Piers, a facility in downtown Manhattan. Ottawa plays the New York Rangers Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
