The goaltending is EXACTLY what I said it is. Its awful. Blame Eli all you want, that is just one more way to avoid the truth. You guys amuse me.

Before I fully come over to the darkside of Eli blaming, this could also be true. As far as I can tell Eli hasn't ruined an NHL great yet. Maybe he just can't make miracles happen.

Not reading any of the past posts. Has Eli even had a NHL great goalie.

I think he coached Tim Thomas at one point.

Yes, he also coached Carey Price once upon a time I believe. When he was considered the next "big thing".

We need a goalie, but we have Lehner who'll play in the NHL after next season I think. We need some D-men - or one Dany Boyle and some tinkering - it's damn frustrating to still be saying this, but without a trade for a true number one, we'll be stuck in this rut for a long, long time. With the acquisition of an achor on the back end, we look a lot better and brighter - particularly with Karlsson, Cowen and hopefully Wiercioch coming up.

I don't know if I want to splurge on a Dan Boyle at this point. I think I'd rather take our lumps and build the right way.

If asq2 is right though, we can't afford a full rebuild. The current patchwork "plan" doesn't seem to be working and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Granted, if we keep playing like this, it may be a fu rebuild whether anyone intends it or not. There's not a whole lot we can do right now.

****, Murray wouldn't deal our first round pick....would he?

Murray won't deal any top two round picks. Brian Lee could go. I can't see a deal of a roster player now, considering how thin the lineup is. In a few weeks, maybe.

I hope that a lot of bodies go out the door soon. The staus quo just isn't working.

I don't mean a full rebuild or anything like that. I mean one where we don't keep resigning average players and go out and sign an over the hill Russian. We need to keep our core in place with maybe the exception of one or two of them and sell off any moveable assets we have. Keep the younger players, keep the core for the most part and rebuild in 2,3 or 4 years through the draft and trades.

Pretty much. I'm not really pissed at the signing of Kovalev - I'm pissed that he's not performing and costing 5 million (plus Cheechoo etc. etc. etc.).

...and then I step back and realize that this team is still (barely) in a playoff spot with a crap D, crap goaltending, scattered scoring and horrific injuries and I can't help still being impressed.

Thankfully Bryan Murray has never traded his 1st round pick as a GM of any team

I'm more shocked at the difference in talent levels between conferences. If the Sens were in the West, they would be a legitimate threat to get the #1 pick.

Fewer crappy goalies IMO.

I wouldn't be stunned to see Murray trade the 1st rd. pick or Wiercioch to obtain a stud forward prospect. This is only because the top four prospects are defensive prospects with none at forward. (Karlsson, Lehner, Wiercioch, Cowen)

The new NHL rewards teams that suffer for consecutive years, which you can see clearly in the Chicago's, and Washington's of the league. I'd like to see what anybody else could have done in Murray's shoes. Heatley? Kovalev (who was urged by the OWNER, his BOSS)?

There's not a lot you can do in those situations. I think Murray's done a great job, and if all of these injuries never occurred and we remained at .500 since, we'd be in 3rd/4th place, and nobody would be saying Dung.

Start thinking rationally people.

And no, I'm not related to Bryan Murray

Murray has had plenty of opportunites to improve the defense but balked at the price every time. He got his priorities wrong and it's costing us.

Also, Murray isn't here to rebuild either. He was brought in to win us a cup. If we are going to rebuild it's going to have to be a new GM.

i don't think it's as easy as you guys are making it out to be. what they gave cambell is way to high. i agre that guys like kelly, neil, kuba should of never gotten the raise/money they got. to be honest i still think we could deal without neil. don't get me wrong i love the guy but we've got carkner to fight and ruutu to instigate... that 2 mill could be used on somone else combined with waiving cheechoo.

When we re-signed Neil Carkner was a 29 year old AHL-er.

People forget pretty quickly. This team was 15-2 then fell apart because of lack of character. No injuries, no trades, nothing. Just fell from a cliff.
I don't mind Kelly and Neil here at all, in fact they have been consistently good this season. Before all our injuries we were 5th in the conference. 5th out of 15, people. WHy? Character, same effort every night, good 3rd and 4th line, goal scoring from everyone.

People are overreacting now because we are 9th and especially because of injuries? People are disappointed when they should have known exactly that this would and should happen.
