I can't fault Kelly, Ruutu and Neil. Ruutu is having a career year in goals and points, Kelly started slow but he's doing well. Neil is playing over his head as well.

The guys that really need to shine are Kovalev and Fisher. To a lesser extent Foligno, Shannon and Regin too though.

It's hard to blame them. We are asking 2nd line players to produce like 1st line players, while also playing against the top shutdown pair of teams now. And this is while someone like Fisher was already producing at stronger pace than he's known for.

Is it hard to blame the for forgetting how to back-check or how to play in their own zone?

I can put up with incapable, but the last few games they have looked unwilling. It doesn't take much skill to run around and hit a few people -- case in point, Schubert. Not that I agree with what he did, but this is a guy we let go for nothing and he is at least trying to do something. How is the Cheech, anyway? Someone said he came back?

Can you believe he came back? Not that I wish him any ill-will, but for him to pop back into a game, but Alfie, Spezza and Michalek to be out long term is a hockey god starting to play with us a little.

Also, he got robbed of two sure goals in the last two games. Besides, he works hard. Why is that good for some players and not others?

Fisher, Kovalev and Foligno are not in my good books right now. This is a sport where you need your better players to step up during injuries - and they've been horrendous.
Thumbs Down

That is easy to blame them for. Definitely!

I'm also loving Regin's play. Not only as of late, he was good early on too, albeit inconsistent.

Looks like he's becoming a Vermette kind of player. By this I mean fast and talented, solid defensively, with flashes of brilliance, and the occasional hit. He just needs to get better at faceoffs, add some consistency, get used to the NHL speed, and he's going to be money!

That's because he's thriving in a bigger role. The inconsistency comes with being moved around the lineup so much.

I think I should strap on some pads and play net for the next game, I'd do a hell of a better job than our guys. We should all strap on some skates and show them how it's done, this is getting ridiculous.

On the plus side, you were witness to one of my best rants ever last night. Mad

That's because you play with less... errrr... equipment, which means less gets in the way while you are sprawling around. This also allows you to have less fear.

The Chirp seems to think we just need to hang in there until the injured players come back. Sorry Chirp but we're just about done by then.

First ever sexual harassment complaint on GMHockey... methinks so. GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Atlanta Thrashers - 7:00pm ET - Tue. Jan. 12th, 2010 - Page 34 952886 ...

Not sure why I high fived that. Possibly because firsts are always special.
