I guess not, then.

basicaly gainey wanted carter in exchange for halak. flyers refused and now apparantly the flyers have offered hartnell and giroux for halak and gainey refused he wants carter . no way halak is worth carter, let alone hartnell and giroux(cap wise it doesn't work). but i would think that if there was a trade to be made giroux OR hartnell would be enough to get halak outta MTL....

so raffi will be available to teams... i'm not a big fan but i'm sure there might be takers...
Colombus:
Probably not while we are sitting in a playoff spot.Dash wrote:When do the Senators firesale rumours start to surface? Sens should not be worrying about who to go out and overspend to acquire, but what they can get for Volchenkov?
Kovalev I would move after the season (trading him this season looks bad since he just signed, but the harder problem would be finding someone to take him).
So any team not winning the cup this year should go in firesale mode ? You don't overhaul a roster in one year.Dash wrote:Cause we're really winning the cup with this roster...

How about solving the goaltending for once? I'm frustrated and tired of seeing this team pretend to be a contender. We slip into the playoffs and accomplish nothing, but that seems to be okay with you guys cause they are making money. So, it's all about money then and not icing a good team? Murray continually going out and making awful decisions? We've got a 4th line (when our team is healthy) making almost $6M - that is ridiculous. Spend the money where it is needed and on players that deserve it based on skill and not because they are "good guys".

I think you are overstating the problems. How many true franchise D are there in the league, not enough to go around. Murray has attempted to acquire or draft one. I agree with you on the 6M fourth line, Kelly and Neil are both overpaid. Murray has attempted to address the goaltending with the acquisition of Leclaire and drafting of Lehner in the 2nd round. I for one am taking a wait and see attitude with Leclaire. If by this time next year he is not playing up to my expectations, then I will be jumping on your bandwagon.Dash wrote:Not every team is in dire straits as the Senators. We did the playoffs for 11 straight years, and still I think this team will prosper when Cowen and Karlsson will be in their 3-4th years. By that time, we should have at least 2 legitimate 1st liners at the forward position, a good goalie (Lehner or Leclaire), while still competing for a playoff spot every year.
Seriously, I don't have much to complain about, when I know it is pretty hard to make a deal right now, and it's pretty hard to get high draft picks that can really make a difference.

Great post.
This is the stuff the Ottawa media needs to be spreading - not constant negativity.
11 straight playoff years, a stanley cup final, the longest serving captain, 2 great chl team, the largest tournament in the world, etc.
We're trying to stay semi-competitve while we build for 4-5 years out.
