Can't use Volchenkov as trade bait, I've already dealt him to Philly for Braydon Coburn.

And I've dealt him to Chicago for Beech and a pick.

I can see him landing in Chicago. Solidify the defence for the cup run. There or Washington. Prospect and pick coming back.

I heard MTL wanted Carter out of Philly. No chance they take Kovalev back for Halak.

I could see a Kovalev for Gagne, Drury, or Briere. That's about it...

Maybe if they could upgrade their goaltending, without dealing a roster player.

They have to deal roster players, unfortunately. This upgrades them in goal (debatable, I agree) and they don't lose much immediate punch. Seidenberg might even be a slight upgrade on Barker right now.

If I were Scotty Bowman I would tell Stan to do that right now.

Really? I think they would if it means getting rid of salary. Sopel, Sharp, and Barker could all be had.

It doesn't make any sense. They don't need to shed salary until the summer. If it meant improving in goal then maybe.

Take this to the bank, the Hawks will make a trade for a guy like Anton Volchenkov. I would guarantee it. And they'll move Barker or Sopel to do it, but shockingly Sopel's turned the corner and is playing well, so it'll be Barker (if anyone will take him). But they certainly will get a playoff warrior on D who's contract is expiring.

Nothing up front, but they have a glut of great players at forward, so they could dip into that as well.

Guaranteed they make a move. I would bet any kind of money on it.

I'll take that bet. Unless a goaltender is involved.

EDIT: They will probably add a piece but nothing significant going the other way. A Muckler deal so to speak.

I'm not sure who they'll trade, it might be a pick (probably a pretty high one), it might be Skille, Beech etc., but they'll find a way to get Volchenkov or someone like that. They need to treat this as their big chance.
