Either way I said it, you and everyone else knew exactly what I ment.

Campbell at 7.3 is relative. Do you have a 7.3 million dollar D man, or do you have your top 6 signed for under 20 mil? The Sens need a Campbell right now because it's becoming pretty clear Campoli is just another Tom Piresing or w/e number 6, small, offensive D man you wanna name.

Like I said, I wouldnt make a deal for Campbell unless there were picks and prospects coming back with him. I would be 100% sold if Kyle Beech was coming back, he's basically exactly how Murray would build a hockey player, especially a center.

Campoli will be a nice player when he settles in IMO, but Campbell would bring an element that we simply don't have - yet. The problems will always be in the contract.

Besides, what would we trade to make that work? Cheechoo, Kelly, Picard/Campoli for Campbell and Beech? We would need to clear salary as much as the Hawks would need to for next year.

There would be wiggle for sure. But yes, Kelly (although I like him) Campoli and Cheechoo for Campbell, Beech, and a 1st is what I would push for. Short of that I wouldnt do it because of the simple fact we are doing Chicago a favour by taking Campbell (no matter how much we could use him)

They'll never part with their 1st rounder as well if we're getting Beech and Campbell. I think you have to relinquish some of our depth for just Campbell and the prospect that best suits our needs (Beech for sure).

Cheechoo
Campoli (you have to give the better player)
Kelly

for

Campbell
Beech
Possibly a mid-round pick, but I doubt it.

The good news there is that Winchester can step into Kelly's role. I don't really want Regin playing wing, so I'm not 100% sure who you put on the top line...Fisher I guess, then you let Regin center Alfie and Kovalev and Winchester to center line 3 and Donovan slides back into the lineup. At that point, Keller, St.Pierre and Z.Smith should be prepared to come up at a moment's notice if there are injuries. Bass is having a crappy season, so no rewards for him right now.

I'm on board with that.

That's where you would put your boy toy Shannon, right on that top line.

Yeah, I thought of that. It's possible.

Serious question, would you make that deal if you were Chicago GM?

Kelly would replace Madden next year, Campoli comes off the books if need be and replaces Campbell right away, and next year you send Cheechoo down for a year if need be. That's a lot more managable then Campbell's NTC, 7 million per year, contract.

The Hawks will be giving up a lot more then just Campbell to get rid of that contract, they have no choice.

Not a chance In hell. I don't think anyone on this site took that trade proposal seriously as it is preposterous on so many levels. Turn the page.

On the other hand, maybe Chicago gets real value for Campbell if they deal him at the deadline.

IF the Chicago GM is that desperate to get out from under Campbell's salary for the next 6 (or whatever) years, then he has to realize at this point in the season he has to take the same amount of Salary back.

This means that IF he does do the deal, he'll want useful players whose contracts expire in the next 2 years so he can correct the mistake.

Remember it wasn't the current GM who signed Campbell, and while Cheechoo Kelly and Campoli may not seem like equal value, it may be as close as he'll get, and consider Cheechoo comes off the books next year and Kelly in 2 years and Campoli this year.

Bowman hates Campbell by the way, that much was obvious during the playoffs last year. They will do everything they can to keep Kane and Toews.

Also, Chicago hasn't made all the moves it has to worsen their team. They want to win it this year.

Obviously TKK are a priority but I think it's more likely that they try to deal Campbell in the off-season.

The deal that was in question - and the only way Chicago can dump that kind of salary would be:

Kelly
Campoli
Chechoo

for

Campbell
Beech

Would I do that? Maybe actually. I'd waive Cheechoo to the minors immediately in preparation to buy him out in the summer (cap him 1 million for 2 years). I'd replace Campbell with Campoli and I'd look for a rugged shut down D-man. Kelly as Neely said could replace Madden if he goes, but at this point, I realize as GM of Chicago that I'm still going to have to make another side deal and probably lose Versteeg.

I'd also ship Sopel to the minors immediately. No buyouts there, just taking him off the cap.

So in short, I can think of other ways to skin the preverbial cat in Chi-town, one of which is acquiring a real goal and banishing Huet, but at the very least, this deal would take the pressure of Chicago having that 7.3 million dollar D-man - who's frankly nowhere near as good as Seabrook or Keith - AND I still would have Barker, Kjarlmasson (sp?) and Campoli, not to mention I'm in the market for a Volchenkov.

Watch how many guys Chicago banishes to the minor. Sopel for sure, probably Huet and if they're not lucky and can't move Campbell, then they'll have no choice but to trade Byfuglien and/or Versteeg to re-sign Toews, Kane and Keith.

They'll do it, they have the resources and they have a new GM that can say, sorry to have to waive these guys, but they weren't signed under my watch. He has an easy out.

I'd look to trade Campbell for a goalie, then if that didn't work, I'd look to the team that would take Campbell and give me a piece or 2 that I can use or waive.

Scotty "My Career Was Built on the Backs of Superstar Players on Ready-Built Teams" Bowman or Stan "I Got an NHL General Manager Job Because My Dad's Career Was Built on the Backs of Superstar Players on Ready-Built Teams and Now It's My Turn" Bowman?
