Short of that I wouldnt do it because of the simple fact we are doing Chicago a favour by taking Campbell (no matter how much we could use him)

Serious question, would you make that deal if you were Chicago GM?

The deal that was in question - and the only way Chicago can dump that kind of salary would be:

Kelly
Campoli
Chechoo

for

Campbell
Beech

Would I do that? Maybe actually. I'd waive Cheechoo to the minors immediately in preparation to buy him out in the summer (cap him 1 million for 2 years). I'd replace Campbell with Campoli and I'd look for a rugged shut down D-man. Kelly as Neely said could replace Madden if he goes, but at this point, I realize as GM of Chicago that I'm still going to have to make another side deal and probably lose Versteeg.

I'd also ship Sopel to the minors immediately. No buyouts there, just taking him off the cap.

So in short, I can think of other ways to skin the preverbial cat in Chi-town, one of which is acquiring a real goal and banishing Huet, but at the very least, this deal would take the pressure of Chicago having that 7.3 million dollar D-man - who's frankly nowhere near as good as Seabrook or Keith - AND I still would have Barker, Kjarlmasson (sp?) and Campoli, not to mention I'm in the market for a Volchenkov.

Watch how many guys Chicago banishes to the minor. Sopel for sure, probably Huet and if they're not lucky and can't move Campbell, then they'll have no choice but to trade Byfuglien and/or Versteeg to re-sign Toews, Kane and Keith.

They'll do it, they have the resources and they have a new GM that can say, sorry to have to waive these guys, but they weren't signed under my watch. He has an easy out.

I'd look to trade Campbell for a goalie, then if that didn't work, I'd look to the team that would take Campbell and give me a piece or 2 that I can use or waive.

Yeah. That's painfully obvious. Senators send Karlsson To Bingo - Page 13 270956

Really? Because his current cap hit is 2.5, just so you know.

he will be due a raise, and I am hoping for more like Kuba type numbers over 5 years, A-Train is in his prime and we need this guy locked on our roster.

When's the last time you remember seeing a trade at the deadline for a player with multiple years left on a contract? It's usually for pending free agents, so that contending teams can temporarily add a piece they believe will help them for the upcoming playoffs. Nobody's going to change their minds on Campbell's contract.

Not sure about the rest but I am really scratching my head on why Murray needed confirmation about karlssons contract and if it would account towards a year if he played more than 10 games. That rule has been around for as long as I can remember. He should be familar with the CBA and the handling of entry level contracts.

That's a very good point, Chicago needs cap space asap. As an organization they cannot afford to lose either Toews or Kane

I think there was a lot of mis-information going around, especially from the media.

Where does it say that Murray needs to check into the contract implications?

I read somewhere (THN?) that Murray required confirmation regarding Eric's ELC if he went to Bingo instead of back to Sweden. I take it Murray thought that it would be either back to Sweden or lose a year on his ELC (which would explain his comments from last week -- he really did not want Karlsson going back to the SEL).

I think he said it himself in one of the papers. I remember him saying we need to talk to NHL officials to make sure or something of the sort.

That part of the CBA is open to interpretation IMO. Rather be smart and ask for clarification than assume and be the Blackhawks.

Looks like Karlsson didn't have a good game with the Bingo Sens played at SBP on Sunday...

No goals, no assists and not even a shot on net. Eek.
