Sounds like Karlsson had the flu as well. Clouston said he wasn't feeling so well at practice today.

Gets the flu and then gets demoted. Poor guy.

I don't know if it's been said yet, but Murray stated in the Sun article that it isn't out of the question that Karlsson could go back to Sweden this year. Huh!?

http://www.ottawasun.com/sports/hockey/2009/10/27/11542546.html

Murray said Karlsson was "very emotional" when being told of the demotion, but added that he dos plan to report to the AHL team.
He said Karlsson could still be recalled by the Senators during the season. He also didn't rule out the possibility of the first rounder returning home to play in Sweden at some point.

Silly SensGirl- the Olympics are in Vancouver!

Regardless, this sucks. I'm kinda confused what the reasoning behind it is. Maybe it'll be a wake-up call? Hopefully he takes it in stride.

Personally, aside from the odd slip- I think he's looked great.

Senators send Karlsson To Bingo - Page 7 489887 Senators send Karlsson To Bingo - Page 7 489887 Too funny! I kind of meant playing for Sweden, but yes, that was dumb.

You know what though, I think Karlsson should shut it and go play in Bingo, it is not a right to be on this team, but a privilege. He's lucky he got the chance to come down this year and get some experience. No bad can come out of this. But, if he goes back to play in Sweden then that could certainly set him back.

I agree, if he bides his time, and uses the time in Binghamton to improve and mature, he's a lock to make the top 6 next season

Exactly, if he does this right he's a lock for top PP QB next year with Kuba. It's all part of the game, take it in stride, do your time, reap the rewards of being a top D-man.

That's what we all hope will happen but can you blame him if he takes it personally? Just a week or so a go, Murray told the media he would be in the NHL past the 10 game mark.

No he's not, he won't have learned to play in the NHL.

More likely he and Cowen are the 5 and 6 which is bad for both of their developments.

I hate Campoli so much! Senators send Karlsson To Bingo - Page 7 797712

A) He hasn't said anything to the media, I don't know why you're telling him to shut it
B) It's good that he's pissed about getting sent down. You want him to show passion, and plus Murray said he wouldn't be going down
C) No bad can come of playing in the NHL, but playing in the AHL won't help him learn the game as much as playing in the NHL will
D) He hasn't looked any worse than Campoli, it's just a numbers game
E) I don't think we honestly gave him much of a chance

It's frustrating.

Asq, I would have thought you would accept this better. Your Wings have been keeping players in the minors after they are ready for the NHL. It's the advantage of organizational depth. Karlsson will come back next year and be a more physically and mentally mature rookie.

Before the season, I was fully prepared to let him wait another year in the minors, but I think now that the best thing (apart from gaining strength) is learning to play in the speed of the NHL game.

I don't think the Wings have had a d-man prospect as precocious offensively as Karlsson is for a while, and also it's hard to compare when rookies in Detroit have to crack a blue-line featuring Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Ericsson and Lebda.

The Wings already have an almost perfect blue-line. In Karlsson and the Senators' case, EK with proper handling (ie when not paired with the weakest defenceman defensively on the team) has the potential to provide something the Senators don't have, and desperately need if they want to play more up-tempo (or have a powerplay that isn't a laughing-stock).

Additionally, I don't like the consequence that Karlsson and Cowen may be paired together next season.

I won't lose sleep about it, and part of it stems from my own irritation at being forced to try to find ways to watch Bingo (and losing a reason to watch Sens games), but I'm still a little irked. They could have let Karlsson show what he can do alongside an NHL-calibre defender like Kuba.

Well, hopefully this kid's confedence isnt totally crushed because he gave up A LOT to come here this year for a roster spot that was in Ottawa, sheltered by Alfi off the ice and Kuba on it.

Tough break for this kid.

If he's a professional, he'll understand. It's all part of the path to the NHL. Playing in the NHL is a privilege, not a right.

It is, but now he has absolutely no support what so ever... it might not be a bad thing but something like this could really break a 19 year old kid. If he was Canadian or American he would be headed for Jr and have a lot of support, Bingo better give this kid all the support in the world because he is gping to need it.

True, and my comment cuts both ways, the Ottawa Senators need to be professional about it too and give him the support he needs to ensure there's no set back or that this won't help him.
