:^^^^: Holy Diddle, seriously. For Moller and JJ I was pissed it was a broken player and a PP going back. Now that I see the deal, it's actually a lot better.

I was initially shocked they gave up two young pieces for one old one and one puck mover (who I still think they have a lot of).

roflmao :^^^^: Its ridiculous how off that is from the speculation.

For all we know, that could be the insulting offer Murray was referring to. Shrug

That is insulting. It's a salary dump, I don't blame Murray for laughing at that one.

Actually, I think that's indicative of what we'll end up getting for Heatley - which makes the Fat Penner/Cogliano/Smid trade pretty sweet from where I sit.

This is actually a pretty good trade for LA. They basically give up nothing and add some character and another puck mover to help out the forward.

This just kills Heatley's value though... unreal.

Oh, that's a little better. Still...so much money for Smyth. Goodness..

Not really...It just proves that no one wants to give up quality assets for him. If he was UFA this summer, he'd be looking at 8+ without question.

Maybe... that Edmonton deal is looking pretty sweet at this point though. Well, have fun in Ottawa Heater, you're gonna need a lot of inner strength to even get out of training camp, haha.

Let's not get crazy here. There is a huge difference in talent level between Smyth and Heatley, and as such, I'm sure Murray wasn't looking to take on Preissing's contract or the contract of any other salary dump in a deal for Heatley.

Like it or not, this is a trade-off of bad contracts. I'm not entirely sure either team wins this one to be honest.

The deal was ALL wrong in the first place. It's officially:

Ryan Smyth for Quincey, Preissing and a 5th.

No Lilies.

Good move by the Kings. Preissing wasn't even listed on LA's roster, he was on Manchester's. 5th round pick - meh. Quincy had a strong year last year, but will need a big raise after this year. He only makes 525K this year.

Smyth is overpaid as a 60 point forward, but the Kings are hoping his intangibles spill over onto their young team.

LA gets the better end of that, FOR SURE. Smyth is defently a guy they can use, demisnishing skills aside, he will be there to help push that team forward.

I like the deal for both teams honestly, but this IMO is really not good for Ottawa and Heatley.

who said Liles? It is Priessing, Quincey and a 5th rounder for Smyth....

Yeah, not a fan of Smyth's contract, but what they paid for it is amazing. Wow. Just...nothing.

Seriously, SpezD, that is ONE COOL AVATAR you have now.

OK, I'm looking at the deal as now posted:

The Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings for defencemen Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick.

The 33-year old (Smyth) posted 26 goals and 33 assists in 77 games last season.

---

The Kings get a dependable veteran 25+ goal scorer who is one of the most ardent competitors in the NHL.

They give up Quincey, and a fifth rounder, and off load Preissing.

The Avs get one terrific young defenseman, a dependable veteran D who works the PP, and off load a contract they didn't want.

Looks like a win-win.

This could pave the way for Heatley to Colorado? Just pure speculation but salary out to bring salary in?

Absolutely. With the details iron clad now, it's a good deal for both sides.

You think? I think they're going into 100% rebuild now.

Hmm...can we have Hejduk or...Liles? Ahhhhh!

Colorado is rebuilding, no way they give up any assets to Ottawa that would actually help us out.

Seriously, this move basically took LA out of the equation for Heatley. Hahaha, wow, this is not good.
