Is anyone else watching Wimbledon!? This is unreal.

Rooney,

Look at all the bonus money included in the totals. I would think it very unlikely that all those bonuses are attained. However, should they go over the cap due to bonuses that would count against next year's cap, which could severely hamper Tallon next year.

I would be willing to bet that Byfuglien is moved next summer.

I'm about 90% sure that most of that bonus money is from Kane's and Toews's contracts. Entry-level contracts cap out at $850,000, so the rest of what they're making ($3.725 mil and $2.8 mil) is by definition "bonus" money.

Kane: $3.725 mil - $850 = $2.875 mil
Toews: $2.8 mil - $850 = $1.950 mil

= $4.825 mil

Which roughly accords with the CapGeek estimated figure.

These are not performance bonuses. They are signing bonuses, which figure in as part of the player's cap hit just like salary.

I was under the impression they are performance bonuses. If they are signing bonuses, then yes they are screwed.

EDIT: If they were signing bonuses then they wouldn't be included in the Bonus Cushion.

The following are the conditions for performance bonuses:

PERFORMANCE BONUSES

What players may earn in performance bonuses?

Performance bonuses will only be permissible for the following types of players: (1) players on entry-level contracts; (2) players signing one-year contracts after returning from long-term injuries (players with 400 or more games who spent 100 or more days on injured reserve in the last year of their most recent contract); and senior veteran players who sign a one-year contract after the age of 35.

Hence, again, I believe that that $4.8+ mil in "bonus" money refers to the contracts of their young players, and are already included in their cap hit. CHI doesn't really have any guys who fulfill conditions 2 and 3.

I'm a little late, but has it been discussed that Colorado is possibly making room for Heatley?

Huh...I read that and shrugged it off. Unless they feel that lineup can compete with the addition of Heatley (haha). They might be trying to find Stastny a winger I guess. Their D is overpaid though and they cured their goaltender woes with Craig Anderson - who don't get me wrong, I like, but can he be a legit number one behind a shaky D? Tough question.

Not to mention, what would Colorado even be offering? Marek Svatos? Scott Hannan? Salai? Clark?

Not sure they have anyone we can actually really use going forward. They won't trade Wolski.

Hejduk and Liles for Heatley and Lee Ahhhhh!

Done and done. Unfortunately Hejduk has a NTC and apparently loves it there, Lilies would be nice though. Can't see Colorado doing anything but rebuilding though unfortunately.

I think Hejdul and Liles for Heatley and Lee is pretty slanted in the Avs' favour.

Beggars can't be choosers, though.

Pretty much, yeah.

Make it Hejduk and their 2010 first and second round picks and I'm all sorts of in love with that trade.

PS. Their first round pick is probably going to be first overall.

Yeah, that would be a really nice return.

That first rounder may be a good reason to trade with the Avalanche. Throw in a workable forward, top 6 preferably, along with the requisite prospects, and we are cooking with gas. No D-men unless they are elite, though, we have enough 5/6 to stock half the conference already.

Even without a roster player, the first along with decent prospects is good with me. I'm banking on the extra value in the entertainment from watching Heatley languish on a crappy team for the next few years - then have their prospects come out of entry-level contracts just as he needs a new contract too.

I've always said I wanted picks. I didn't want San Jose's pick, not again, but Colorado's is a different story.

it could be possible they are making room to sign Tanguay as well, I prefer your option though, get a few more teams in the running to get us a little better than we are expecting for this bum. SJ apparently is rumoured to be in the running, not sure on the validity of that though.

Don't forget that we need to present Heatley with options to choose from though. Sarcasm

I'm really quite surprised that JP Barry was able to say that with a straight face to be honest.
