Now excuse me, I need to go crack open a beer and watch some porn, and remind myself what it is to be a man again.

It's 10AM, isn't that a little early for ... you know?

Normally yes... but here it's 11AM... and these are extenuating circumstances.

I actually wonder if there is some rift between these two guys. If the Heatley rumours are true about why he wants out (ie. problems with Clouston's system that is asking him to work harder), then Heatley and Spezza are likely at odds. I could see Spezza being annoyed with Heatley if the coach asks him to work harder so he just asks for a trade.

All you have to do is watch him when he was at the worlds... The fact that he's tired of playing with Spezza is undoubtedly a part of this decision.

With it being a new day and time to sleep on it I think Heatley could really help get Calgary, St. Louis, or Nashville over the hump.

St. Louis could put together a nice package for Heatley. With Kariya coming off the books after this season it would leave them a skilled forward like Heately to take over while in the mean time they could have a real strong 1-2 with Kariya and Heatley for this season. LA has been discussed at great lenghts and would need to be considered a favorite to get his services you would think.

Not sold on Calgary because of cap restraints. Phaneuf would be nice but it doesn't set us up for the future unless they were willing to add both their 1st and 2nd rounder. It wouldn't also give us the cap space we so desire.

Nashville is another possibility. If they were willing to part with Weber or Suter and a 1st+prospect we could have a solid defence but in 2 years we would be in a cap problem again when Weber needs to be resigned, unless Kuba was moved. Suter may be another option as he would be a little more affordable and signed a little longer. Getting either of these 2 guys would give us some cap space while adding a piece to team for now and the future as both are still young.

And of course LA. I dont need to say much here as its been heavily discussed.

I suggested this last night - and I'll suggest it again:

Milan Michalek - 6'2", 230, plays his size, 57 points last year, 22 goals, 24 years old, signed for 4 more years at 4.3 million.

OR

Ryan Clowe - 6'2", 225, plays his size, 52 points last year, 22 goals, 26, pending RFA

AND

Christian Ehrhoff - 6'2", 205, plays big - not huge, but big, 42 points last year, 26, 2 more years at 3.2 million.

I would do any combination of:

Michalek and Clowe for Heatley

OR

Michalek or Clowe and Ehrhoff for Heatley

The Sharks would also have to pony up a 2nd round pick.

Definitely not. This guy is public enemy number one. And a diddling loser.

I've heard Senators scouting staff has approached Murray asking him to obtain at least one lower first round pick because they have targeted two players in that area of the draft that they feel the Senators should strongly be looking at.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade involving a mid-to-low first round pick, another draft pick, a top prospect, and either a mid-level prospect or a roster player.

I kind of like the idea of a trade with Dallas, since they have the space to take heatley and not have to give us any salary back. So they get Heatley and we get maybe Neal, Benn and their first (8th overall).

Then we trade our 1st (9th overall) to a low level 1st and something else. Something like to Pittsburgh for their first and Alex Grant, or less likely, our first and lee to Vancouver for their first and Edler. (although we'd probably have to give up more)

This way we address secondary scoring with Neal (he played very well with Fisher at the WC), and if Benn is ready, he could replace Heatley on Spezza's wing. And if we do get Edler, we address the puck moving defenceman.

When did you switch the username? Did you let it settle for a minute or was it as soon as you were sure?

SJ is one of the first teams that sprang to my mind. However, as I said, they just don't have the picks and a 2nd definitely won't cut it when a 50-goal scorer is in the mix.

I like those players, in fact I think SJ might want Schubert since he's buddies with Ehrhoff. Without a first rounder coming our way, it's not worth it.

The first time I heard that the reports were true it got changed.

I liked Heater, but I love the Ottawa Senators. They're everything to me personally - no player is above the logo. So, you Diddle with the logo and I disown you wholly.

Really? Michalek or Clowe isn't enough to get you to forgo the pick? They're already true, hard players in the NHL. They're not going to nance around crying about ice time, they're gonna smoke you into the boards, get the puck to Alfie or Spezza or Fisher and then prepare themselves to plant their arses right in the opposing goalie's face. They were the guys (along with Boyle, I'll admit) who played really, really hard in the playoffs. They're the guys IMO.

Foligno is aspiring to be Clowe. Imagine having them on the same line? :drooling:

I doubt we could get Vlasic - maybe though. But even if it's Ehrhoff, he's slick, amazing passer, produces points like there's no tomorrow and is still young enough that he's got a lot of untapped upside.

I like it personally. You have to do more than that to talk me out of that one. Wink

I think Ottawa Senators fans put too much stock into "hard hat and lunch pail" players and not enough into Superstars. It's a hangover from the expansion days.

Absent a 1st round pick, you can't deal a 50-goal man for a hardworking 25-goal man.

I think a lot of you guys are looking or things that are not there.

Use some logic here guys, who is looking for a star player? LA and Edmonton. What teams have the cap space? What are the Sens looking for? The Sens are not going to be looking at other question marks coming back. There was a clear message sent yesterday and when they signed Clouston. "It's about what's best for the team now"

That being the case, they are probably going to get players they can still mold into their image. Players that can help 3, 4, 5 years down the road, not a guy like Thornton.

Also, there are other teams that have given up a lot in the past like Pitts and Calgary who cannot afford to be giving away their picks, prospects, and players. Some teams are stuck.

It's nice to dream, but the most logical places to look are teams that are looking to get over a hump and have the goods to get a deal done. Everything leads back to LA and Edmonton.

I'm surprised more people are talking about this. It's a great proposal. The money's the same, SJ gets a killer sniper for Thornton.

If Marleau cost less, I would suggest him. He's got the entire package, he just can't be a captain. And we have our captain.

But Clowe and Michalek? Instantly the Sens are bigger, tougher, meaner, angrier, hungrier. Everything we want in one transaction.

I think this possibility is being talked about with Murray and co. It's too good not to at least give face time to.

I dont know if Murray is really going to want to take on guys that have underachieved in SJ when he can actually start building his team the way he see's fit.

I would be disapointed if that happend honestly.

I disagree. There are going to be 29 teams who lose this year. About 25 who are unhappy with their roster from minor tweaks to major shakeups. If the same money goes out as in, then that expands the field. San Jose is unhappy with how close they have been coming, Calgary same, Vancouver is ready to move away from the Sedins I think.... There are a myriad of teams and scenarios. To limit to Edmonton and LA is wrong IMO. This is a bidding war that will excite about 10 GMs with genuine interest, again this is all speculation but I believe the number is certainly bigger than 2.
