I think in reality we either end up with Hodgson or Tuebert as the big prospect coming back.

Couldnt be happier to see this selfish prick get moved and maybe now we can start building a real team here in Ottawa.

N4L, you will not get any arguements from me on what he did and if it were anyone else he would have done the time. Your comment shows a lack of respect, in light of his actions. If he wants out because he can't get along with the coach then he needs to be sent packing. We don't need an elite player on this team who isn't willing to try and work through a new system and coach.

Oh, very much so, I have absolutly no respect for Heatley, nor should anyone else.

Heatley's career from this point on will be in constant question and I hope he has seen his better days. I really hope it was Spezza making him go, not the other way around.

I was just listening to Bill Waters on my ride home from work today and he claims that Heatley is an over paid under achiever and Ottawa will have a hard time dealing him. He thinks Murray's only option is to get another under achiever back. He gave examples like Heatley for Gomez or Heatley for Marleau straight up. There seems to be a dichotomy between what is being said here and in the mainstream press. I suppose the truth may fall somewhere in the middle. Although, I hope we can get a king's ransom for Heatley. Murray might not be negotiating from a position of strength.

How about Lee and Heatley for Marleau and Vlasic

Sens are not going to try and get a long term replacement for Heatley.

This is absolutly a chance to bring in fresh guys, build the organization in the mold of what they feel it should be built as. There is no way Murray drops the ball on this.

Again, look for a prospect, 1st rounder, and perhaps either a short term plug and or a mid teir prospect or pick. Its rebuilding time in Ottawa, it's just a good thing we have a lot of assets to keep The Sens competitive.

That is going to be a tough sell to the fans here though.

Ugh. I'm happy to move one of the big two massive contracts, and I'd prefer moving Heatley to Spezza, but the fact that this is out in the open hurts the Sens. This is the 2nd trade request he's made in his career, which should set off alarm bells for potential suitors. Hopefully this doesn't affect Murray's ability to get maximum return for him.

The draft anticipation just increased tenfold. I don't see Murray dragging this one out.

I'd preger the Gooch and Vlasic. Marleau has quite a few miles on him, and I really wonder how he'd perform under the spotlight in Ottawa. Not quite the same in San Jose I'd imagine...

Nah, Ottawa fans are pretty educated and know whats going on. Its not Nashville. We still have Alfi, Fisher, Phillips who are the heart and soul. Still got Spezza there who might blow up and be bigger than ever now. You sign a J Bo and people will forget Heatley was ever a Sen.

It wont be tough to sell a rebuild here, especially since The Sens can sneek into the playoffs with the right moves. New stars and players will be born in the next few years, garenteed.

I'll break down and cry if we can somehow parlay Heater into Hedman. Or Duchene for that matter! Hell we could get Tavares and trade him to the Leafs for the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund....all of it.

As nice as the idea of getting a number one defenceman sounds, you have to consider how much this hurts us offensively.

Nashville has a sick D-core but can't score because they have no one to pass it to. Of the already rather pathetic scoring depth we had, we've moved Vermette and now may move Heatley as well.

That leaves you with two proven offensive players in Alfredsson and Spezza (and people have doubts about Spezza). If you can't find some way to fill the void, you're screwed. Foligno, Shannon and Regin are all nice players, but I don't think anyone can call one of them a top-3 forward. Nor can you say that about Fisher.

I defently think Foligno turns into a 25-30 goal guy this year with the move Heatley made. He has been on the pace with Clouston since he took over. Other guys are going to have to step up, no doubt, but Heatley can be replaced.

Long term this is going to be great for The Sens, short term it might sting a bit. There are other UFA's out there that could fill the void.

We have to make sure we get the right pieces in the trade.

In my opinion, at minimum, Murray should be looking for a combination of:

top six forward + top prospect + first round pick
top two defenseman + first round pick
top tier prospect + top tier prospect + first round pick
first/second/third overall + mid-level prospect

I think your first propsal is the most logical and likely to happen.

Ill bring this up all day until it happens. Tuebert/Frolov/5th overall. Makes so much sense. They still have another stud in Hickey, they dont need that 5th overall and Frolov is signed for 1 more year, at which time, if they like what the see from him in Ottawa, you can resign him. He'll get you 30 goals while playing in every situation.

Put Foligno with Spezza and Alfie ASAP.

Dreger on TSN suggesting PIttsburg, edmonton may want a finisher and would be interested in Dany HEatley, and the OTR panel, includign Ray Ferraro all agree it would not be difficult to find a taker for Heater's contract. I think the argument was, there are a few players in the league payed as much as Dany Heatley who are not half the player he is (Rangers might disagree lool)

^agreed PKC.

The first scenario gives some scoring depth back to the Sens, since we will lose some of our already insufficient scoring. It also leaves cap room for another mid level forward if need be.

The remaining scenarios also leave cap room for us to acquire some type of scoring. Sure, in the short term we may lose out on a considerable amount of scoring but that won't stop me from being excited! We've talked about Heater moving for a long time and now it's finally a real possibility. The fact that he doesn't want to be here makes me think our locker room dysfunction may become a thing of the past.
