Should be, but I mean, if there is a list of 10 teams he wont go to, thats fine. Prob teams like Florida, Atlanta, Pheonix, NYI, Tampa, Carolina, Montreal, Nashville, Toronto, and Buffalo... something like that, everyone else is wide open.

If you ask for a trade that NTC should be void right away.

I agree. I wonder how it's worded in the contract... would love to see one.

The more I think about this the less enviable I think Murray's position is. Not many teams have the budget nor the cap space to take on a massive contract without giving up a big contract in return. The means taking some deadweight back. Also couple that with Heatley's apparent list of teams he won't accept a deal to and the list of suitors potentially gets very small. If I am Murray, I tell Heatley's agent to take that list, turn it sideways and pound it up his Donkey. No way do I allow a player to not only dishonour a contract, but to punch his own ticket? No way.

I'm wondering if Colorado has any interest. I'd be opening with their first and Wolski. He has a year left, then becomes RFA.

Those scenarios were my dream, likely not going to happen, I realize that. But if people are throwing out Weber and Phaneuf I am going to throw out Nash.

It doesn't make any sense, though...

Nash makes more sense that any of us imagine. What if Columbus can't re-sign him? At least this way they get a comparable player locked for 5 more years. If he waives to go to Columbus, I would see this as a distinct possibility.

I dont see Columbus dealing Nash, no shot.

Hedjuk, Wolski and the 3rd overall. They've waited for this day for 10 lifetimes - a new sniper to make Statsny the big center on campus.

St. Louis: Former home of his hero Brett Hull and home to one of the fastest up-and-coming groups of young players in the league = entirely possible

Edmonton: Close to home, its in the west, also has a decent crop of young players, BUT its Edmonton and Heatley is reported to have been a Flames fan... = unlikely, but possible

Nashville: I have no clue why he would go there...

The Island: Are you kidding me??

Colorado: Do they even have anything to trade with?

etc.

Thats the problem with these things (NTC, NMC) it adds that extra dimension that the trade not only has to work for both teams, but also for the player involved.

I'm thinking Phaneuf is a real possibility. He'd have to be paired with Phillips or Volchenkov though in order to cover his defensive shortcomings. It makes alot of sense from both sides though. I think Murray has every right to ask for Phaneuf+ for a hometown multiple 50 goal scorer.

He's pretty physical, but he's less of a goal-scorer than Brown and more of a playmaker.

One comparison I've seen tossed around is a really poor man's Messier. Of course, when we do these comparisons, it's more talking about style of play than calibre. Also, you're never going to be fully precise.

Wait until they have 'trouble' re-signing (meaning Nash is waivering). They saw what happened to Florida - not that that was a bad thing, just that there was no compensation.

Are Phillips and Volchenkov any better than Regehr? I'm not sure.

A lot of Flames fans said he was incredibly frustrating to watch last season.

Hedjuk is only under contract for another year too, giving us flexibility. That 3rd overall pick guarantees us a stud. Duchene, or possibly Hedman.....

The new regime in Colorado may be wanting to make a splash and put a new stamp on the team.

This is probably my favorite scenario atm.

I still love what LA can offer.

No I would say they aren't but anything less (read a lesser defender) is a real recipe for disaster. Phaneuf was horrible last season defensively. He was on the ice for the most goals against in the league I believe. He's got a long way to go in his own zone. He needs to understand that it's not all about a highlight reel hit.

They're offering as we speak according to the whispers. They have been for some time. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Yeah that list looks about right, but I wouldn't rule out Carolina and Phoenix too quickly.

Carolina has top line center for him to play with and have just had some decent success.

Phoenix has the Great One and a reasonable crop of talented young players.

Both are also out of the media storm he'd find in some other cities. Imo thats a huge concern for a guy like Heatley. Its one of the reasons why LA makes so much sense.

Either way, when people are coming up with their potential trade ideas, it would be nice if they would consider why he might want to go to that city and why he might not... I mean, Atlanta?? Really? Suspect

For sure, and they'd probably be more inclined to want a winger (Heatley) instead of a centre (Spezza), with Kopitar there.

They could offer a hell of a package.

I like it a lot but I doubt they'd give us that much and we'd probably have to throw in our 9th overall as well.

Wolski and 3rd overall for Heatley and 9th overall or something like that. Maybe a couple other things would be thrown in from the Avs side but that would be where the talks originate from.

I tend to agree with people that say we won't get as much because other teams know we are trading him either way. You can thank the person who leaked this story for that.

Phoenix has no money to spend at all.
