EJ Hradek and NHL Live Reporting Dany Heatley has requested a trade

I am thinking you work the phones hard with Sutter right about now... Phaneuf apparently can be had and Heatley would have Calgary on his list I am sure.... I wouldn't do that deal yesterday but this is new info...

I was ripped on for a while saying this would happen, and it did. I came to grips with it back in febuary, now its just a reality.

Do we give J bo Heatley's contract?

At this point, I would say just deal Heatley for picks, prospects. Give J Bo 7-7.5 mil for 7-10 years, somewhere in there.

I don't think that's gonna happen though. Murray said he wants to win now in a fairly recent interview (end of the season I think) so I would suspect we will get some pretty good players back and not just picks and prospects.

I am very happy to see this today. Heatley is a selfish player who floats around and only produces when Spez gives him those perfect one-timer passes. Im a little nervous about this being so public because now other teams can have the upper hand on Murray but hopefully we can bring in some solid prospects and a high 1st, lads with something to prove. Not an ungrateful primadona

I don't buy that for a second. The NHL landscape has changed in terms of how to run a team. With the cap set to go down in consecutive years, with the season after next's decrease being quite sizeable, I'd say that Murray will be looking at draft picks and youth.

It's the only way to go. If you bring your average age down into the 23-26 range, you're laughing. You're looking at being consistently one of the elite teams in the league.

Diddle Phaneuf! No thanks. The guy is a big time chump, regardless of his potential.

Yup, the actual trade should be for youth and prospects. You can replace some of Heatley's numbers with a UFA.

Murray now has free range to go after J Bo.

Btw Spezdispenser ( cool) ): I think you're right that Hossa isn't there post-lockout. Its actually since the 2002-03 season that no one else has more goals than him other than those 3 plus Lecavalier (I think)

would giving j bo heatleys money just end up wiht us being hard against the cap again i thought we were hoping to get a little bit og relief

The money is totally invested in another way if you get J bo. You need that number 1 D man.
