I'm gonna guess somewhere between Karlsson and Filatov money -- i.e., not the upper limit on ELC contracts.

Guess this means he's here for camp and is going to get a shot at making the team.

Most likely something like the contract Jonas Brodin (MIN - 10th overall) signed yesterday:

Brodin signed a three-year, $2.75 million deal, one that won’t begin until he turns pro with the Wild. In the NHL, his salary-cap hit is $1.475 million when potential bonuses are taken into account.

I'll guess 2.2 million - no bonus cushion, so that's cool.

Nice. There's the 2nd line center. Regin is in a fight for his NHL life.

So you obviously think he's going straight to the NHL as 2nd line C.

I would think about this personally:

Filatov - Spezza - Butler
Michalek - Zibanejad - Alfredsson (nice line IMO)
Foligno - Regin- Greening (learn to play RW please!)
Z.Smith - Konopka - Neil

Something like that give us an interesting balance throughout the lineup IMO.

50/50 chance of making the team. If he makes it, he will get the minutes.

He is on the second line in my line projections, and he and Filatov could make a nice duo.

Yeah I wouldn't put any money down on him making the team, no guarantee.

That first line wouldn't work. You don't put two rookie (basically) snipers who haven't even played 82 games in the NHL yet with Jason Spezza. They would be easy to stop.

Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Filatov-Zibanejad-Alfredsson

works better IMO.

We'll see how it goes in pre-season. As much trepidation as I have about Filatov, he and Spezza might work in a big way. And Butler can hold his own. Problem is, two out of those three don't play very good 2-way hockey - and Spezza has just come into his own in that respect.

Maybe you're right. Doesn't matter much, there'll be shifting up and down the lineup all year I'm sure.

I'd swap Filatov and Michalek, personally. Spezza is better off with a left-hand shot on his left to carry the puck up the ice, and having both Filatov *and* Butler on the top line could result in carnage. Alfredsson would be better to bring along two youngsters than Spezza, at this point.
