So now that I've settled on the camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ100) I can't find it. B&H has the best price at $375 (plus $9.42 shipping and $1.46 "disbursement", and the 13% HST); Futureshop.ca used have it at $379.99 but it's now back up to the regular $519.99 price and sold out. I tried calling two stores in Ottawa and one in Dorion (visiting my parents tomorrow, driving right past that store) and they don't have it in stock (if they price matched from $520 to $375, 10% of the difference would add an extra $14 discount). I've got a $20 off for Henry's if I use PayPal, but their price is the same as FutureShop's current price, and I doubt they price match that much.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Would have been nice if I could pick it up today and take some shots while visiting my folks, but it looks like my only option is B&H on line.

You can try Vistek in Ottawa:

Nothing on their website except for the battery and lens adapter (and the battery is $20 more than another site I saw). They seem a bit pricey.

Sorry I don't have time to read the whole thread but I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3, and it's beautiful. Picture quality is flawless, tons of options, and has 720p video. For around $300

EDIT: Alright, I see you settled on the upgraded model. GOod choice Looking for a good, yet inexpensive digital camera - Page 7 54934

The Z100 uses a CMOS sensor (I bet your model has the CCD). It allows them to do 1080i video and 11 fps burst mode shooting, but the IQ reportedly suffers (noise and lack of detail). However adjusting the NR down and the sharpness up apparently (and from the pictures I've seen posted) makes a world of difference.

The fully articulated and higher res LCD seals the deal for me.

Just a matter of getting it now. Seems I can't get it in person.

Here you go:

Call, maybe they'll price match.

Oh, yeah, now I remember. For some reason the search doesn't find FZ100 but does find FZ100K (I think the two are the same -- the K sometimes stands for black).

I wouldn't be able to get it until Thursday at the earliest, so I just e-mailed them.

They don't have that model listed on their website (plus, the FZ40, at $80 off is only $5 less than the B&H price for the FZ100).

one tax. they used to have free shipping for orders over 500$.

top notch store - better than Henry's or Vistek , but that's not hard to do

http://galaxycamera.com/index.php

some of my Ottawa friends used to like this place - they were amicable to "dealing"

they are still all way off from Amazon:

B&H has it for $375 (plus $9.62 shipping and a $1.46 "disbursement" fee).

Uh-oh, trouble? I was completing my order and just before the final click I get this "warning" message:

Taxes

International orders are generally subject to local import fees, duty, customs, VAT charges or additional taxes in the country of destination.

B&H is not responsible for, nor can offer any specific advice on import fees, duty, customs, VAT or taxes that you may have to pay when your merchandise arrives. B&H advises you to consult with your local government import office for specific information about these potential charges. DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) Recipient is responsible for custom clearance charges, duties and GST where applicable.

Now, they already added the HST and I thought no additional fees would be involved.

Shabbs, have you ordered from B&H before? Were there additional fees involved?

I have ordered from B&H before but I don't recall if there was additional charges (ie: brokerage fees) involved. It was a while ago and it was for some hoods and step-up rings.

They use Purolator and not UPS. I'm still not 100% certain by I googled and it appears all the taxes/fees are paid up-front. FingersCrossed

Camera is "On vehicle for delivery" -- should get it some time today. Although my wife said just before she left to go to the bank (I had left a couple minutes earlier) that Purolator came -- or maybe they called. I can't find the package in the house and she won't be home for a while longer.

Facepalm What did I get myself into? I might have to read DP for Dummies, or take a course. The camera comes with a full manual on CD -- maybe it has a tutorial. By all accounts this is one camera that you definitely don't want to leave on iAF (intelligent auto-focus) and there are a lot of options.
