Why only 5 years? I guess if it's short term and he ends up a UFA at the end, Myers money - or a little less. 5 on the nose.

But why can't we lock him up long term @ 6.5+?

If we HAVE to do 5 years, then 25 million. He's on his 2nd contract, so that gives us a discount on what should be more (because he's awesome) Ahhhh Yeahhh.

He's only -2, now. Considering he was -8 not too long ago, we'll probably see him on the positive side of the ledger pretty soon.

Probably not. Last year they probably would have... now? Not so sure. Karlsson, in 3 or 4 years could be the best D man in the NHL. Even if he isn't he will be the best offensive D man by a mile.
