I fail to see why you think your first sentence automatically means your second sentence should be accurate.

Byfield is one of the youngest players in the draft. Add that to physiology and the immense skillset of Byfield and you’ve got a perfect opportunity to slowly mold a franchise player.

It’s my guess that even with normal progression, Byfield is 3-4 years away from giving us more than Logan Brown could be giving us in 3-4 years.

Anyway, if we draft Byfield, I will gladly continue more discussion and my realistic love affair with him

Based on past draft history 4 years seems too long. Spezza played 30+ games in his draft+2 year, even though the team was loaded as Jacques was prejudiced. Both Staals played a full season right away, same with Malkin and Seguin.

Looking at just centers who went second overall. It's unlikely that a center taken second overall takes more than 2 years to play full time.

He’ll play full time in 3 years, but as I’ve said, he won’t be more productive than 2022/23 Brown, where ever that is.

I’m over it. It’s just my opinion and one that I do t really care about if we don’t draft him.

I will however automatically draft him in my fantasy league as I have the top 3 picks this year.

I'm not trying to convince you. You questionef how I could doubt that it will be 3-4 years and I simply pointed to history. Not an opinion. Just odds. No skin off my nose if you don't agree.

let's say we win the 1st overall. what do you guys think would be the cost for us to move that 1st and slide down to the 2nd overall?

I think a lot of people would be upset if we did that but i think the organization has a bigger need at C than getting a top winger. Plus who's to know what we could get to move down 1 spot?

It will never happen. Elite level player, French speaking, a clear #1 overall.

yes, but what would it take?
imagine we pick first and Montreal second?
can you imagine how pressured they would be to try and trade for the 1st?
there's the potential to rob them.

The problem is that I would want another 1st rounder and would prefer to upgrade our Islanders pick. For example, trade 1st plus Islanders pick for 2nd and another top 5 pick. But as far as I know no other team has multiple 1st round picks.

So then you have to look for a prospect or better player. I would not want to give up a potential generational player for veteran, and judging other teams' prospects of extremely difficult (we got Brannstrom for Stone and, apparently, the Vegans didn't want to give him to us).

Don't get me wrong, Brann should still be a player in the NHL but considering we gave up Stone in his prime he'd have to be Erik Karlsson to make it even.

And, yes, I understand there was money involved (although if they rumors are to be believed it wasn't the money that made the difference to Stone). But Brannstron was the juicy product that made Dorion say one of his all time dumbest things.

Bottom line, I think it is very difficult to properly evaluate other teams' prospects.

or they just took the best deal they could instead of a player walking away.

Lots of teams have multiple 1st rounders, Minnesota, Anaheim, Rangers and Devils are 4 I know of for sure. Might be one more.

In this specific scenario with Montreal, they can have #1 if they give us #2 and Romanov.

the devils have 3 1st rounder with the highest being 10th IIRC?

they could be a target to move up as they do not have any 2nd rounder.

depending where the isles picks stands

Sorry, I thought it would be obvious I was talking about lottery picks.

If you are trading the 1st overall for the 2nd you are dealing with another lottery team. There is only one team with two such picks.

Edit: Devil's have 6 and 10.

If the Devils' #6 moves to #2, would we trade #1 and #21 for #2 and #10?
