You realize they were saying the same thing about Karlsson, even after he won his second Norris.  

Bingo was a crap team last year and it'll take a little time.  Getting a couple better players did not completely overcome having, as you mentioned, Sielof, or Jake Rodewald as your leading scorer.

Well at least karlsson actually made it back to his own zone to cover the play. And there's only one karlsson. You wind up with a power play specialist that barely gets minutes if they can't play both. Leave him in bingo till he gets it

Yeah, he could use some time in Bell. That's what's slightly annoying about this right now. Boucher and Dorion clearly agreed he needed some time in Bellville, I didn't see it personally, but that's why I'm here and they're there.

The good news is: we watched him in pre-season, he can fly up the ice and create chances, then he's smart enough to haul arse back to his own zone.

He's gonna be so good it's actually scary to see. He's Karlsson basically - in that he can fly up the ice and make things happen and he's fast and smart enough to get back, but...the NHL is not the Q and he could use some time getting used to how fast things happen. I wish they had left him down there and called up Jaros and someone else, but whatever, he'll go back down in a week or so I assume.

Another issue I have is the way Boucher uses young players. Formenton barely played vs Detroit, Brown played in the first, then sparsely in the 2nd and 3rd vs Washington. Play the kids, go for it, don't be shy. They'll bring that useful enthusiasm and energy that you just can't buy.

Formenton didn't play a lot because of all the power plays. Brown played a good amount I found. He wasn't great IMO so he had his ice time reduced accordingly

Funny thing is, they were up by 2 when he stopped playing Brown. Something else changed, because Ovechkin was invisible until the third.

Yeah, Oduya got hurt in the 2nd period I believe. Also, Boucher and Ceci and Phaneuf matched up against OV from what I remember, but you really don't want to be down a d-man against a team like the Caps.

I drove to Montreal to bring my mom and son home for Thanksgiving, then drove my mom back Sunday. Listened to 690 a lot (1200 almost impossible to listen to past the Calypso waterpark). Tony Marinaro should be required listening to every psych major. He's textbook for a few things. Back in the summer all giddy how the Habs got so much better while Ottawa just spun its wheels. After that shellacking in the pre-season he was planning the parade already. Two weeks later and it's "Well it was plain as day to everyone -- the got rid of all their puck-moving D and replaced them with big, slow guys like was the norm in the 90s".

It's pretty sad that guys like that actually draw money for talking about sports - like as if they're any better than a fan.

Montreal are what they are. They'll have a couple of good runs behind Price, Pacioretty, Gallagher and Drouin, then they'll go back to what they really are: average. And you can't be average in this conference or this division, you will miss the playoffs.

Ottawa's better in depth up front and depth on the backend, but we're still in that same realm. The difference is we're tougher to play against IMO.

Montreal is a groin pull away with Price from being a lottery team to try to draft that elusive star D-man again, so they can potentially trade him away...again.

Much like the Leafs beginning several years ago, the long road to the bottom for Montreal will be VERY enjoyable.  Resigning Price was a huge mistake, although I understand why they did it.

Not a mistake. They had to re-sign Price. It would be the same as Ottawa not re-signing Karlsson.

What really hurt them was re-signing Galchenyuk to his ludicrous contract and putting him on the 4th line. It's been a ticking time-bomb in Mtl since they traded Subban. They haven't addressed their #1 center issue for a few years now. Fact is they're not very good.

Toronto on the other hand... I get that their goal-scoring will normalize but what a great start. Eventually their defensive issues will catch up to them but they're a pretty exciting team to watch right now.

So Karlsson has been ruled out from this Western Canada swing. He could return as early as next Tuesday against Vancouver. Oduya hasn't been officially ruled out for Friday's game against Calgary but it sounds like he'd more realistically join the team in Edmonton, on Saturday.

My thinking -- if they win in Calgary they'll tell Johhny to stay back and enjoy his time off. Get both him and Karlsson back on Tuesday to counter the effects of first home game after a road trip.

Marinero is the Mtl equivalent of cox and Toronto. A complete idiot. Doesn’t much outside the habs and even then. You want to talk about reactive media putting pressure on the market? Look no further.

Carey Price is going to be 38 and still getting $10.5M per season. There's no other goalie getting paid anywhere close to that. Also, Price has had some concerning injury issues. I know it would've taken a massive set of balls to trade Price at some point last season or this season, but I think it would've been the best way for the Canadiens to move forward. Get a couple great assets for him (and/or use the $$ to resign Radulov or whoever) and remake the team a bit. Man, they could've tried to get Fleury from Pittsburgh for nothing.

The best case scenario with Price is that he plays great and continually makes them a playoff bubble team.

The Habs also have Charlie Lindgren (23 yrs old) in the AHL who is one of the best goalies on the planet not in the NHL.
