The Sieloff thing sucks. Obviously no one should have been running Mac, but it's pretty obvious now that the guy shouldn't be playing hockey anymore.

At least now we have a bit of time to figure out an alternative.

Were you around when Kelly was the Sens' top-line center for a while? They did pretty well that year. But I don't disagree that Kelly as the 2LW is not the ideal situation. It is, however, one we may end up in anyway. Reider would fit Boucher's mantra of "speed, speed, speed, speed" but what does he want to come to Ottawa, and what will Arizona ask for, in return?

If not Rieder, then it doesn't look very pretty as far as free agent left wingers are concerned. And finding a top-six winger available in a trade in September is a tall order.

Tobias Rieder: 14 goals, 37 pts last season
Alex Tanguay:  8/35 (22/55 the year before, 36 years old.

Not a lot.  Throw an offer sheet at Gaudreau?  Maybe Boucher/Crawford know someone in Europe that wants to come back?

If we're throwing out offer sheets, lets go after Kucherov. I'd give up 4 firsts for that maf.

They're saying that Stone will be ready for the start of the season so that's not a huge concern, however there should have been a contingency plan for MacArthur this whole time. At some point this season he was going to get hit. For his sake, I hope he decides to retire before he takes one hit too many.

I am not sure if I'd be willing to give up all of our futures for Kucherov but I would be willing to wheel and deal with Winnipeg who is stuck with the Trouba mess.

To Winnipeg: Ceci, Lazar, 1st in 2018
To Ottawa: Trouba, Ehlers

Not sure if this is fair or what, but it is definitely something I would entertain doing.

Pretty sure Smith playing LW (like he did last year) was the contingency plan, and Kelly was brought it because he replaces Smith as a left-handed center or, if need be, bottom-six left-winger. Don't forget that we played without Clarke for pretty much all of last year, and were doing pretty well until Turris went out. Not many rebuilding (young) teams have the depth to overcome their top center and top left winger (he played primarily with Turris in the previous two seasons) going down at the same time. And even with all that, if we had Boro-Wideman as the 3rd pairing (not Boro-Cowen as the first PK unit) and Phaneuf in the lineup all year we still probably make the playoffs.

Again, I'll repeat, not ideal, and if we were not on an internal budget then you'd certainly want a better backup plan. But Sens still expect to make the playoffs even with MacArthur out of the lineup.

Don't want to be too dramatic, but this could cost points early in the season and we can't afford that at all. I guess smith can move up, but pageau is twice the player.

Smith played well on the left wing last year. Pageau played well as a center. Why mess with what worked?

Sens gonna trade for Rieder? Here's hoping they make a move.

Sure. Why not?

We needed to add a forward BEFORE Mac went out. Are we gonna get a couple now?!

Their numbers went up exponentially while playing with Stone.

I don't know much about Brass but Ryan is not a possession guy. They need to find someone who can skate with the puck and get it on Ryan's stick. Rieder would be a good up for sure. Not sure what it would cost to get him.

It would never happen but Chabot and A prospect or 1st rounder for Trouba. Then Ceci for Drouin.

What? I wouldn't. 4 first is too hefty a price to pay. Not counting the salary associated with that.

Yeah I think the drouin trade possibility has ended.
And I think Winnipeg has wanted a top 4 LHD not just a promising one.

I hate being right but I'm grind of pissed because it was so freaking obvious that what happened to Mac was just bound to happen and now we are caught strong the season with holding our Richard.
Better now then later but it means that instead of going FA with a cheap option like Hudler we now have to go the trade route giving up assets or roll the dice on a prospect that wI'll likely make us less competitive.

Yupp. My thoughts exactly.
At least Smith is in a contract year. And Paul can maybe surprise us a bit. Still, not possession guys. Pageau would be ideal. Has he ever played the left side? Slide Paul or Lazar to C on L3 or move Smith back to C?

Pageau is amazing, we might need him in the top 6.

I must over rate Chabot, but I wouldn't do that deal. Trouba is good, but he hasn't proven he's that good yet.
