Better now then later but it means that instead of going FA with a cheap option like Hudler we now have to go the trade route giving up assets or roll the dice on a prospect that wI'll likely make us less competitive.

Yupp. My thoughts exactly.
At least Smith is in a contract year. And Paul can maybe surprise us a bit. Still, not possession guys. Pageau would be ideal. Has he ever played the left side? Slide Paul or Lazar to C on L3 or move Smith back to C?

Pageau is amazing, we might need him in the top 6.

I must over rate Chabot, but I wouldn't do that deal. Trouba is good, but he hasn't proven he's that good yet.

Smith played well next to Pageau and Stone in a 3rd line role. Pageau is the closest player we have to MacArthur.

Yeah, I agree. If somehow you can get him into a LW position, you're fine for now. Paul could center smith and Dzingel or whatever and you hope that isn't too green a line.

I'm not sure if I'd want to have paul centering smith and dzingel. I think we are better off leaving pageau on the third line as he's had chemistry with smith and you have to hope someone can take that RW spot and run with it.
It makes more sense I would think to have nick Paul play with two vets and hope he can contribute with them. Spread out the experience.

OR! Get someone via trade.

Dzingel is a LW so I don't think we can just slot him on the right and expect it to work.

Can he play top-six left wing better than Boro?

At this rate any help we can get.
And with team europe's success I won't be suprised if another team steps up with another offer than us. Luckily for us it's obvious we have a need for him.

That was the catch-22 from the beginning. We needed to see if he could still play at a high level, but if he could, obviously other teams would be interested.

Yeah, but Pageau is a top 6 forward in my eyes, a 2nd liner to be more specific, so if we lose MacArthur, we need to get creative and get a guy in there who will help the line, not hinder it. I guess Smith could go up there, but damn if that's not pretty much a last resort.

Dzingel on the right side, or Paul, or Puempel sucks, because they have to get used to it, but do they want to play NHL hockey or not would be my question if I was coach.

I guess my opinion is do you try to have two good lines and an iffy third or just go for 3 lines t hat can produce with a couple of them with a less than desirable player on them.
And can pageau even play effectively LW if he's a righty that's out of position? That's a different kind of order than what's previously been asked of him

I think he could do it personally, but who knows... Interesting time coming for the Sens here, where literally every single point will count. Can we go into opening night with a rookie on the 2nd line - or Smith and survive? More to come as they say...

I would say the answer is no but I would also say that's why we need to trade for another player. Although this isn't the best time. I guess pre - season will be indicative of what to expect on opening night.

With Gaborik out for 2 months the Kings LW depth is Pearson, Clifford, Nolan and Mersch. That can't be good for us.
