but seriously, most of the bands that i like which have mid-size fan base don't ever play ottawa, just the music scene i'm into isn't very big in ottawa. id have only house of targ to go to and that's not much or enough. to be fair montreal barely makes the cut as well if i'm being honest.
i'd move to Atlanta, new york or LA in a second given the chance.
it's just if i'm moving i'd rather not move to a smaller city. i'm applying for jobs in Toronto and vancouver.

It's not like The Darkness or Helloween would ever go to Ottawa.

Hehe. True, heck they hardly play MTL? But that's even on the larger spectrum.

I really need to get on a good run of concert going. It's been awhile.

I probably go to shows every two weeks if not every weekend but quantity doesn't equal quality. I haven't seen a mind blowing band for probably a year.
That said I probably only go to only one hockey game a year. I'm sure I'd see at least a dozen if I lived in Ottawa.

That's true. I don't go to concerts so I have no opinion

Who needs to go to games when all 82 are on TV? Who needs to go to concerts when you have MP3s and streaming music services. Live is over-rated. And over-priced.

Unless it's Colin James. Damn, I missed him back in April.

MP3 and streaming is great for access to a wide range of content and convenience. As far as listening enjoyment, it's the bottom of the barrel.

You're not wrong. I have a friend who is an audiophile and he told me years ago how MP3 will ruin music. But this is a guy who would spend hours setting up his speakers to be "just right" and actually could tell the difference when he moved one of the speakers a inch closer. My ears aren't that finely tuned.

I love live music, but I'm talking about mostly acoustic stuff. With electronic music "live" is often just a synonym for "louder".

I'm. Guitarist and my current project fall into the powerpop category. Think if the ramones and the beach boys got mached together.

I imagine your friend is really into vinyls over CD's also?

Personally 95% Of The music i buy is on vinyl but I do appreciate the commodity of mp3's for the everyday. One doesn't have to exclude the other.

I only started enjoying power pop recently. Big Star are good but grossly over-rated, IMO. Smithereens really check both the power and pop boxes. I like Badfinger as well. And I admire Green Day's recent Beatles/power pop leanings too.

I really love big star but I think they had more an effect on alt rock scene than powerpop. Powerpop is such an all incompesating term to be honest that it can mean early cheap trick just like it can mean late 70's NYC punk. It's a hard genre to fit into a narrow niche. I usually like to reference the band The Records as the prototypical powerpop sound. you could easily hear them and the their style in one way or another in the sounds of most powerpop bands. https://youtu.be/BL7eAHCIiqY (If anyone is interested)

To me there's probably more edge in what I play as there are strong punk influences in the music but it's about the harmonies on top that make it veer away from traditional punk.

Ok.... Back to hockey! Sarcasm

I was at the game vs Montreal on Saturday and left very unimpressed. I keep telling myself it's only exhibition.
