I would be interested in stamkos. It would make Zib tradeable for a package to get a top LW

I also thought it would be Detroit months ago.
I'm not sure where he fits in on the roster but they are definitely clearing cap space for something.Hobiesens wrote:dennycrane wrote:All of the rumored teams for Stamkos are in the Atlantic (Montreal, Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto, TB). Too bad Ottawa isn't in there. Cap space available and the need.

I say Stamkos ends up with the Panthers. A young team with lots of cap space and he remains in warm Florida where he can still go out without getting harassed by fans.

He's either going to Toronto, Chicago (they'll find a way around their cap hell), or staying in Tampa.
Detroit makes sense to me but not Buffalo. They have their 2 first C's. Detroit losing datsyuk leaves the door wide open. Will it help them become top contenders? I don't think so.
Toronto makes sense but it's also wasting his best years away. They will offer him a lot though.

Did we suddenly forget that Stamkos wants to win a championship as well? He could sign a 1-year deal for less $ with Chicago or another contender. Detroit is not a contender. Buffalo is nowhere near contention.
I would also say that with his recent medical issues such as complications, I doubt he would sign a one year deal. If something else happens next year it would be a huge buyers beware.Ev wrote:Michallica wrote:Flo The Action wrote:Yeah I don't see how you can make Chicago make that happen.Michallica wrote:What's driving this Stamkos to Detroit rumor? Winning a championship is secondary for pretty much any free agent. If that were the case he'd sign in Tampa.

I like how you say I'm here and that thing in your picture has it's hand raised as if to say "I'm here."

I did it for your amusement.

wprager wrote:Not a rumour anymore -- Datsyuk is leaving the Redwings with a year @ $7.5M left on his contract and on their cap. I'm assuming he's getting that much and likely more from a KHL club. Expect his contract to be traded to a team that needs it to reach the floor.
I wonder why they have to do that. What are the rules under the CBA for players not honoring their contract? If he truly retires then that's covered under the CBA and the cao hit stays. If he simply goes to the KHL I assume they have to officially suspend him. Does a player suspended by the team still add to the cap hit?
