I would absolutely love to have E.Kane in Ottawa and I believe the group is strong enough to keep him focused. Well, focused enough to win some hockey games.
I think Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris' demeanours have an impact on other young new players coming to Ottawa. That plus guys who get traded usually grow up mentally by a couple years.

Now, the price to get him, no idea.

Neither one of those guys put them self ahead of the team... immature? Sure. Ill advised nights out?  Absolutely.  Being a complete a$$hole and knowingly breaking team rules... not to mention not having played all that well the last 2 seasons after signing a huge deal... not the same.

E.Kane has a ton of growing up to do and maybe he does just need a fresh start and to move on for things to click but again HUGE risk.

We don't know what Kane's issues are and let's not try to act like we do.

He just needs a change of scenery.

Does those two statements completely contradict each other? We don't know what the issues are but here's the solution?

I'm not pretending to know anything about what Kane does off the ice (other than what's been given to us by him) but to say all he needs is a change of scenery?  Could very well be more than that.  What if it's rehab he needs?  What if it's a night in jail?  What if it's humiliation and being humbled?

You're right, no one knows so don't state what's needed.

I'll be partying with E. Kane in a few weeks, I'll let you know what kind of DB he really is.

It's ok, I've been around enough to know what to expect.

Wouldn't trade him to either Chicago or Nashville unless it's a 1st coming back. They gave up a 1st for Guastad back in the day, no reason they couldn't or wouldn't do it for Neil. He's not a rental and he is exactly the piece the Preds may need to get to that Cup final which would land the pick around the 27-30 mark.

Chris Neil is not getting a 1st round pick. Guastad isn't even a comparable IMO.

3rd, 4th liner... Gaustad was also a rental and they gave up a first.  Neil has another year tacked on to his deal at 1.9 mil as well so it's not like he's out the door.  He's also a guy they can probably resign for a couple years there after IF Nashville is the team that trades for him.

There isn't a lot of motivation to trade Neil unless the deal is something along those lines.  A late 2nd round pick when Ottawa is probably picking less than 10 spots later in the 3rd round IMO isn't worth it.

You might and probably are right that Neil isn't worth a late 1st but I don't think Murray should trade him unless it's for that.

If you are trading a fan favourite, the trade has to make sense to the average fan (who buys tickets). Neil for a late 1st would make sense.

Barring a trade, Sens will not pick until the 4th after their 2 2nd's.

That's right! Forgot they traded their 3rd to Edmonton... well played sir... well played. That 2nd makes a little more sense now.

Even if they traded Neil for say a 2nd this year and next... that IMO would be acceptable.

It's funny to read angry tweets from "fans" who are lashing out at Phillips and Neil for refusing to be traded even though neither has officially done so yet. People are seriously Cussed in the head.

I think we'd add a 4th or something to get a 1st back, but I think it's possible personally.

It's alright to question their motives a little, I think it's fair to ask "why would you want to be part of a loser when you haven't won a cup and might not get a chance to?". But the venom being spewed is pretty disgusting.

In the words of Obi Wan, who's more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?

I think the average fan forgets that they have families who go to school here. In the case of Phillips he's got kids and a business here, not to mention the years of community service work. It's a lot easier to trade a 22 year old than it is a 38 year old.

we trade neil and a 4rth to get a 1st and big bam boom flip that first with stone(or chiasson if we can get god damn lucky) with one of our top prospect (not named lazar) for E.kane! voila!

WTF? I wouldn't trade Stone straight up for Kane.
