Interesting timing for a bit of a shake up but I like it:

Methot decided to show up today. "Karls" Karlsson did not.

Huh...one of the few guys who actually knows what he's talking about if it's Benji1 or Backdoorpass I think it is.  

Murray and co will have to really think about Methot IMO.  He's a guy who fits in next to Karlsson like no one else in the organization.  They just work together, whether he's a partier or not, when he gets on the ice, he and Karlsson feed off each other.  Is it a coincidence that Karlsson really started looking good when Methot came back?  I don't think so personally.

Not sure what that offer would be.  Probably for Hall, which is probably not ever gonna happen.

Karlsson plays better with Methot but he looked better the second the coaches changed.  He also won a Norris with Kuba so while Methot should be resigned if it's reasonable he isn't some cure-all for Karlsson.  Who's to say Claeson isn't a guy that can play next to Karlsson?  Borowiecki?  Methot makes the team better, no question but he's isn't worth the world.

What's the world though?  Paying him 5.25 million dollars?  I'd say that's a more than acceptable risk.

3 year deal? I would do it yesterday. 5 years? No chance.

The price would go up a lot for a 3 year deal. He might take 5.5 X 4 though.

Haha, this is where the internet can be nutty. Chiasson is an extra skater today, so he must be on his way out as part of this deal!

I wouldn't budge off of those offers. More than fair.

According to Garrioch, Greening will go on waivers at noon today. And then to the AHL tomorrow I guess...no one is going to claim him.

Looks like he's trying to load up the B-Sens with Greening and the newly-signed Brad "Millsy" Mills.

I won't say with 100% certainty that no one will claim him but yah, no one is going to claim him. If they do the hockey Gods are looking out for the Sens.

It's not a super big deal either way. It's not like the team is desperate to trim cap salary. Greening might help a pretty $hitty team in Bingo too.

I agree. I hope this contract doesn't end his NHL career. I think he can still contribute at the NHL level - he's just not a $3M/year player.

It's not just the contract. Even at league minimum you can't have a player with 1 assist after 20 games.

They're called defencemen :D

Smith and Neil not much better but still a fraction of Greening's cost. Issue: one-dimensional player. His one dimension? Unknown.

Neil has 4 goals and 3 assists (can't compare that to 1 assist) and leads the team in hits by a mile -- even after missing a bunch of games. No comparison there.

However Smith is a valid point. He's played in 27 games (vs. 20 for Greening) and gotten more icetime in those games, yet Greening has 30 shots to Smith's 31. So you could argue that Greening generates more scoring chances and that, eventually, that would lead to higher production (there's only 2 points separating them). But Smith's lower cap hit and the fact that he's a center likely trumps him. Plus Smith is on the IR -- not sure if you can waive an injured player.

Smith right now is an after thought, lets see how he performs under a new coach once he's healed up. That said though Pageau has basically taken his spot, pretty sad when he brings more grit than Smith currently does.

What happened to the guy (Smith)?. He was looking to be that perfect, 3rd line gritty, will go with most guy, kind of center. He's just completely thrown in the towel the last season or two.
