I went to see the Force Awakens yesterday with my 6 year old daughter and she got really scared, she had seen the 3 original movies as well. Her 9 year old brother did turn to her and told her to suck it up but she did hold my arm for most of the movie.

Great movie, now we only have to wait until May 2017 to get some answers.

She's seen the original 3 Star Wars (and only got scared when Han shot Greedo, because it surprised her), and has seen the first Hobbit movie. She used to get scared at some stuff but now seems OK. I told her if I take her, she'll need to be tough and sit through the whole thing, because I'd hate to have to go tell her to wait outside while Daddy finishes the movie. Laughing3

I didn't see this advertised anywhere, but a 90-minute Sherlock (Benedict Cummerbatch) holiday special is on tonight on PBS. It's set in the late 19th century (so it's gotta be a Moffat written episode, he did that a lot with Doctor Who).

Popcorn is cheaper at my couch (I don't even have to make fresh, just reach back between the cushions and grab what my kids have left behind).

I'm into Hannibal season 2. That is a seriously fun and crazy show. Too much Laurence Fishburne though.

The Sherlock special was ok, nothing great, IMO. Before S4 comes out (next year, I hear) I'll have to re-watch S3, as I remember very little of what happened at the end.

Downloaded Luther S4. It was great to see "Ygritte" again (too bad they didn't give her a "You known nothing, John" line).
Spoiler:
The way they ended it it looks like they are setting up another season/sequel.

Looking forward to the returns of The Blacklist (next Thursday), Agent Carter (Jan. 19) and The X Files (3 weeks). And then Suits and Grimm before the end of the month.

I'm going to record the Shannara Chronicles. Looks like something the girls might enjoy (but a bit concerned about the 10PM air time -- they just turned 13).

Anyone hear anything about The Colony? It's another show for "Sawyer" from Lost; his last one didn't fare that well.

More on Colony. (Co)created and (co)written by Carleton Cuse. Also stars Sarah Wayne Callies ("Lori" on The Walking Dead). Guess I'll have to at least give it a chance, since it's sci fi.

Apparently Lucas was not very happy with it.

After the prequels, that is high praise, indeed.

He said he had a completely different story for a new trilogy but Disney preferred to keep it nostalgic for the fans.
So why did you even sell it duh.

Howard the Duck.

I can forgive him for Jar Jar Binks far easier than for Howard the Duck. But he didn't direct or write it.

Just finished Making a murderer on Netflix.
Fascinating documentary. I typed Steven on google and the first thing that came out was Steven Avery. Didn't know it was this popular.

Highly recommended. It's a thriller movie in real life and it spans 30 years.

The thing about documentaries is that whoever makes it controls what they show you:

One of the chief critiques of the series from those with intimate knowledge of the case is that the filmmakers gloss over some of the less savory aspects of Avery’s criminal past in order to make him a more sympathetic figure. For example, the first episode briefly discusses an incident where 20-year-old Avery pleaded guilty to harming an animal. In the series, Avery is heard saying, “We were fooling around with the cat and I don’t know, they were kind of negging it on and I tossed him over the fire and he lit up. I was young and stupid.” In reality, Avery and another man pleaded no contest to pouring gasoline and oil on Avery’s cat and throwing it into a fire.

Just watched the original oldboy. I hadn't seen it for some reason. Very messed up stuff, but excellent.

Also tried to watch castle of cogliostro, bit couldn't really get into it. I'll go back and watch kiki and my neighbor totoro again, then attempt it again.

wprager wrote:Just watched the pilot episode of the new Netflix Originals "Jessica Jones".  It's not your usual Marvel Universe super-hero show.  Jessica is a failed super-hero who now works as a PI in NYC.  She drinks like a fish, suffers from PTSD and threatens to vaporize some lowlife with her "laser eyes" when serving him with a subpoena.  If you've watched the other Netflix take on the Marvel Universe -- Daredevil -- this one is even grittier.  I won't be watching it with my almost 13-year-old daughter, even if David Tennant (her favorite Doctor Who) is in it.

I'm about half way through this. After watching the first couple episodes on the elliptical I convinced my wife to give it a try. Went back to the pilot and she got into it fairly quickly. Very well done.
