Half of this season has been different from the books. I think I have watched my last episode. They cut half the characters, half the storyline, killed some people that are not even supposed to die etc.
First 4 seasons were good, this one very disappointing from a book reader perspective.
GRRM's talent as a storyteller has left the TV show.

Just make the disconnect. I can't say I read the books but I don't know why it would change anything.

Look at the walking dead the series has gone on a complete different path than the books(which I read) and for the most part it's better that way. The series no longer has to live up to the books and vice versa. The same could apply for GOT. If they can veer away enough from the books you will be able to enjoy two different things as they will no longer be related enough to compare.

That kinda makes sense only because the books aren't finished.

Imagine if they had taken LotR and diverged completely after Two Towers. Thing here is that the TV show has caught up to the end of the books in some story lines. I think GRRM himself has said (or at least implied) that he might see which way the TV show goes when he finally gets to book 7.

I would say it's impossible to compare because The Walking Dead has maybe 2-3 storylines whereas Game of Thrones (the books), have like 20-ish (not counting the side quests).

The problem I have with the series is that as wprager said, it has caught up with the books. So it is impossible to know whether what happens on the tv show from now on is spoiler or just a different path.
I love reading the books. While reading the red wedding for instance my heart was pounding for a good half an hour. Imagine reading that same thing after already watching it on the show. Probably just getting bored lol.

Otherwise, the show is still great in itself.

Orphan Black season finale tonight.

True Detective S2, tomorrow (if you have HBO).

Suits S5 premiere in 4 days. Mr. Robot, as well, but that's in the US. In Canada Showcase will air it later (September 4).

Humans (androids) premieres on AMC June 28.

The first true detective was awful for me personally. Maybe this one will be different?

True Detective is more about the acting than the story.

Same kind as Birdman really.
I like Character and acting more than story.

Must admit, I was not far from "stunned" when I heard who was cast in S2. Woody and McConaughey have already received critical praise for their acting. Vince Vaughn? Colin Farrell (his career has gone steadily downhill as his paychecks have been going up)?

I guess we'll see.

Farrell was excellent in In Bruges. Haven't seen much of him recently.

Total Recall and Daredevil are two that I'm talking about. Those were big paycheck movies.

He keeps wearing a toque so the less we see, the better.

While watching the draft Bell calls me up to offer me the movie package for $10/month. I checked and I can cancel after a month. Since Boston was still making their 2nd pick I quickly checked, and S5 of GoT is On-Demand. Might watch some of that tonight.

OK, so I got the HBO/TMN package and have started watching GoT. Was very confused in the first episode (forgotten so much).

What they didn't tell me was that one of the movie channels plays, umm, a different type of entertainment past a certain hour. Did not know that.
