I was happy with that trade at the time as well. I had read about his battle to get to where he was and how he had made it when he was told he couldn't....love guys like that. They always seem to find a way. If Conacher is going to come through again, it needs to happen soon. There isn't a lack of effort from him, but he seems to be lost. He is all over the place, accomplishing nothing. I thought he was a great fit for the style we play, but I was way wrong.

Like Ryan "Del" Shannon and Steve Martins. Just as I predicted.

sophomore slump? will be interesting to see how management responds to this situation. i doubt they simply part ways with him. most likely a one year contract.

Shannon was way more talented that Conacher. Fact is Conacher doesn't really do much at an NHL level aside from work hard. Hard work has gotten him to this point but he needs to figure out how to be successful as well.

Yeah, ditto. He works hard, he drives the net, but he's all over the place it seems. Pretty low level of defensive play/awareness too. I realize he worked hard to sign an NHL contract, but at some point that could be his downfall here in Ottawa. We need him to play 20 minutes a night in Bingo under the tutelage of Richardson and co.

He has still only played just over 100 games in the NHL. And he has done it on 2 different teams under two different systems. I think he is a long ways from a write-off. But I am not sure that the current route is accomplishing anything as far making him a better Senator in their system....

Makes sense, Fulcrum. I shall watch Conacher's journey unfold with great interest.

I actually think that's the key to Conacher being able to find consistency in both zones.

He just doesn't have it, old friend. It's ok to admit it now.

He might not - with this franchise, but I don't think I'd completely count him out.

Right now the issues with Ottawa are clear:

Michalek has just found his legs in the last ~20 games and appears to be a top six winger again, so that's a huge plus, Ryan is a legitimate top 6 forward obviously, ditto MacArthur, but then there's a tremendous drop off.

Conacher is taking up a spot that could be used on either another prospect from Bingo, or ideally someone acquired to come in and help spread out the scoring a bit.

So...we need an upgrade on Conacher - like...now.

For Kesler? I dunno man. I try not to overvalue prospects, but Zib is gonna be good. Considering his injury history, I think Kesler has more question marks than Zib.

Anyone else think 9MM could end up somewhere like LA?

So...we need an upgrade on Conacher - like...now.

Spezza is still a top-six forward given his production. Problem is we are trying to get 4 lines to play the 200' game and contribute on offense and we just don't have that. From practice:

MacArthur-Turris-Condra
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Hoffman-Ziba-Ryan
Conacher-Smith-Neil

Get Condra and Greening out of the top-six and replace them with Zibanejad and Ryan -- yes, that means Zibanejad doesn't get to take a lot of faceoffs, but he can still do everything else a top-2 center needs to do. That would give us two good scoring lines.

Right now we are spreading things too thin IMO.

But what do I know, I'm not a fisherman from down East.

He could end up just about anywhere. LA is as good as any other team.

Nope... not unless there is a piece that can help the Sens win now coming back which I don't believe LA is willing to part with. There is no point in dealing Michalek.

Per Adrian Dater on Twitter, Ryan O'Reilly will not be traded and will sign a long-term deal with the Avs this summer.

Killjoys.
