If he wins. What if he loses? Can they walk away if *they* win arbitration?

I agree with what you're saying that he won't get assigned to Binghamton, but he would not hate it and would not be opposed to going to the AHL. He has already stated such, so has Silfverberg, etc. They will do whatever the team asks of them. Sure for guys from Stockholm it's a bit of a drag living in Binghamton, but for other guys from small Swedish towns, it's not that big of a deal.

I've said before that I could see him never playing Binghamton as it's very, very rare for a top Swedish pick to play in the AHL. It's usually straight to the NHL for them.

Unless they happen backstop their team to the Calder Cup as a rookie, winning the MVP award while doing it as a teenager. Then you get to stay another two years.

Lehner's not a high pick Swede. And he's a goalie.

I'm talking Top 10 picks.

You never said that. We were discussing Sens prospects. Zibanejad is the only one who is top-10.

Yes, yes I did. I am referring to all Swedes drafted to the NHL. Name one who has been picked Top 10 and didn't start in the NHL after playing in Sweden. Don't think you can.

I don't even understand what you just said. Were you talking only about top-10 picked Swedes or about all drafted Swedes?

So what's Murray to do with all the one-ways? He has to make some trades, right?

Been saying this for a while. Forget about one-ways versus two-ways, they are at exactly 50 contracts, with the following RFAs left to sign:

O'Brien (he *will* get a contract)
Daugavins (he's filed for arbitration, they may be stuck with him whether they like it or not)
Gryba (the only right-handed D-man in the organization who is anywhere close to ready)
DaCosta

And I'm ignoring Filatov; he's an RFA but he's not getting a contract.

There will be moves.

No moves needed really. It would be best if we had a 22 man roster, but I doubt they care if they carry 23. Maybe they walk away from Daugavins, maybe not, but it wouldn't affect the roster really.

How is this hard to understand? Top 10 Swedish draft picks. HIGH picks.

I'll use my powers of multi-quoting to shed some light on the situation.

Daugavins filed for arbitration, if the arbitrator awards him a 1-way contract we're stuck with him unless he's awarded a high amount in which case we can walk and he's a UFA.

If they wanted to let him go, they could have not qualified him but they did.

Good, I want to keep him. He's a rabbit's foot as well IMO. :crossarms:

Butler, Daugavins and Boro are the extra players. One of these 3 has to disappear or Zib goes to Bingo per your roster above.

I think Zibenajad should go to Bingo personally. His game is raw and really, there's no rush. It'll all depend on how he looks to MacLean in training camp I guess.

Just to play Devil's Avocado here, Lars Jonsson, drafted 7th overall by Boston in 2000, signed as a UFA by Philly after Boston failed to sign him under the old CBA, and alternated his first pro year between the Flyers and Phantoms.

Also, since 1992, there have only been 13 Swedes drafted in the top 10:

'93: Niklas Sundstrom
'99: H. Sedin, D. Sedin
2000: Lars Jonsson
'06: Nicklas Backstrom
'10: Hedman, Ekman-Larsson, Paajarvi-Svensson
'11: Landeskog, Larsson, Zibanejad, Brodin
'12: Lindholm

There was the same # of Swedes selected in the top 10 in 2011 alone than in the entire decade+ from 1992-2006.

To be brutally honest, I have never heard of Lars Jonsson.

Anyways, the point is most teams leave the development to Sweden (or in some cases the CHL) for these high picks/first rounders since it's available to them. Normally, if a high pick Swede is sent down (now I'm talking first rounders in general), they only spend a few games down there, or it is after they have played quite a few games in the NHL and are deemed to need some more time. Example for the first case includes Karlsson, OEL, Tedenby (sent down again this year after a number of games, though), and Jacob Josefson, and an example for the second case would be Paajarvi. Generally speaking, these guys don't need much time because the SEL prepares them for playing against NHL and they mostly all have a solid two-way game that has been coached into them throughout the years. A guy like Rundblad seems to be an exception.

Random thoughts. Ottawa has a boatload of righties on their not-so-distant future forward corps:

Silfverberg(R)-Spezza(R)-Michalek(L)
Zibanejad(R)-Turris(R)-Stone(R)
Regin(L)-Smith(L)-Neil(R)
Greening(L)-OBrien(R)-Condra(R)

Noesen(R), Petersson(R), Hoffman(L), Puempel(L)

I was thinking that as well. At least Silfverberg can play LW.

Maybe he was getting the french word Avocat confused with Advocat? The French word "Avocat" is Avocado and Lawyer / Advocat. Or maybe he was trying to make a funny and we all missed it? Vertigo
