It'd be nice if the paperwork indicated that Locke was replacing Spezza. Would make sense to me to try to replace our top center with our best most productive center prospect.

Worst case is he's on the top line, doe ant produce, then is replaced immediately and never gets a sniff at the top line
Locke is a perimeter player and he risks getting lost due to his lack of speed and size if not on the best line possible.
There is no half-way with Locke; he either produces or he doesn't. That is what he is paid to do; he is not a role player.
Are talking about Locke or Kovalev........
I know everyone is saying his size and foot speed are an issue, but some people can just plain score. Heatley used to be one of those, Tim Kerr was another, hell Cicarelli was one who was small and he wasn't overly fast. Mind you he played right in front and took a pounding.
Still Montreal only gave him 1 game (5 min of ice time) to prove himself, and the Rangers I believe gave him 3 (again around 5 min of ice time). Hardly a fair shot, considering his lowest point total in the AHL was his rookie year at 49 (??) and since then he has had at least 55 a year.
If you're going to give him a shot, you need to give him a decent amount of minutes playing a role similar to what he does in the AHL...what's the down side...Regin doesn't get 15 min a game?

Let's ruin our top goalie prospect before his career even starts.
I understand the sentiment, but I'm still not 100% in agreement. I want a goalie that *won't* get down because he loses. I want him to just go out there and battle, and realize that even if not all battles are won you still have to keep battling. I want someone who can drive himself to excel with out needing someone to tell him *why* he needs to get pumped up.
Like SpezD, I think Lehner is strong enough between-the-ears to survive a trial by fire. And if he's not, then I don't think he's the future of this franchise anyway.
Yes, I know I'm going to get an earful from Roche when his self-imposed Lehner-free-exile is over.
I just like the way you stick to your guns; doesn't matter that I think you have the wrong ammunition.
You are almost asking for your gun to jam and backfire in your face.

Go ahead, you just made my day

Small centers can thrive with big, strong, moderately skilled wingers, IMO. This is why I advocate young Simmonds coming to Ottawa to play with Regin too.

I could wish for many of my favorite players to come to Ottawa, but what is the point?
What about Parise, Kesler, Brown, Betts, Neal, Oshie, Marchand, Tootoo and Callahan while we are at it?

All in favour?

You don't want to see scoring sensation Milan Michalek on the first unit? Shame on you.

Just my personal preference. I don't really want him on Ottawa either; but it is what it is.
He is in the same boat as Leclaire; and this may not make sense to some, but he is just as injury prone as Leclaire. The only difference is Leclaire is soft as a marshmallow and won't play through the slightest discomfort; Michalek on the other hand, will play through a torn ACL.
Hoags wrote:I keep hearing it takes a year to recover from a torn ACL. A bit soon to write Michalek off.
