Did you hear that from Kevin Lie via Liam Maguire?

OK. Just so you know, it was "reported" by Liam Maguire last night and he gave credit to Kevin Lie.

Oh. That changes everything! Facepalm

I wouldn't be surprised if it were true though.

I saw his house in a feature on Sens PPV or maybe Overtime and it's a pretty modest townhouse. Maybe he's just upgrading?

Who knows, the best D-man in that draft was taken 49th overall so..

Any team that pays Anton $5-million per season is just flat out stupid. You can multiply that stupidity by a factor of 10x24 if it's the Washington Capitals.

I wonder if Garrioch will keep milking the spezza thing for the whole summer. "he wasn't happy with the fans". Spezza was an idiot to go 'talk' to Murray about this....like what the hell is Murray supposed to do about it? Don't like it, don't do idiotic things with your errant passes, and grow the fudge up. Leader my Donkey.

It frustrates me to think Spezza would actually go talk to his GM about this. I've been a spezza fan and hoped he'd become elite here, but with this attitude, I'd rather ship him out.

NOOOOOOOO Dung. That's what I have been saying for a long, long, loooooong time. The guy is no better then Heatley, the only difference is he didnt (so far) ask for a ticket out of town. Do people TRULY believe Spezza would still be here if Heatley didnt ask for a trade? Be honest please because I think the answer is pretty easy to see as do most others.

We'll see if he gets dealy because Garrioch was bang on, there really isnt a huge market for him. MAYBE you can get a really solid deal from Edmonton if you take Horcoff back but even then, what's the lesser of two evils there? I know I wouldnt want that Horcoff contract either.

We'll see what happens before July 1, but IMO it's about 50/50 whether he gets dealt or not. You are bang on when you say " with this attitude, I'd rather ship him out". He signed the contract, not the fans, we just pay his salary. We are the shareholders, we are the ones that have something invested in the team, and the only place we can publicly voice our displeasure when the time is needed is at the games or on the radio. If you have a problem with the fans Spezza, back your bags because you wont be going anywhere near a team that has a chance to win, hell, making the playoffs would be a stretch for any team willing to deal for Spezza.

*shrug* it comes with the territory. Disappointing that he'd whine to Murray about it but hockey players are human too I guess. I don't know how I'd take being boo'd by a full hockey area either.

I'd rather have Spezza than Dany F'n Heatley though.

Spezza is a number one centre in the league and we would never get fair value back for him. Any one who rags on Spezza on these boards has every right to do so, but they also have no alternative that would make this team better. Spezza is what he is and hoping he becomes a different player and then getting upset with him when it doesn't happen is frankly idiotic. Murray needs to get a checking forward and a finisher to play with Spezza, and let them roll. People in here have short memories to the fact that a line centred by Spezza was for years considered by many,to be one of the top lines in the league. His skill set didn't dissapear, the players and the team changed. So again, if you want to rag on Spezza fine, but please leave the I wish he would do this, or I wish he would do that crap alone. Accept the player he is and be grateful he wears the Senator uniform. Theres alot of number one centres that are supposedly way better than Spezza playing golf right now on teams that were expected to do alot better than we were-are they all garbage too? Give it a rest.

Spezza's a very creative player - and with that comes turnovers. It's not that that bothers people, it's the fact that he doesn't work hard enough to get it back.

Now, more than ever though, you don't trade him. I equate Spezza to Kane in Chicago - although arguably Kane is a little better. Kane isn't the guy that you hang your hat on to win it all for you, he's a complimentary player to Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook etc. He's the guy that's a little selfish, a little sloppy, but is trying to create things, while the other guys are being a little more responsible and providing a little more leadership.

Does Chicago still win the West without Kane? Maybe, maybe not, but he's not a detriment. The same way Spezza would never be a detriment here.

Kane is pretty dynamic and makes very fast decisions, he's not gonna make as much turnovers, so he won't have to correct them.

If Spezza ever changes, he will have to work harder than anyone else adn quite frankly I don't think he has the mental toughness to battle through adversity, because in 7+ years in the league he never succeeded to turn things around. The longer it takes, the harder.

Spezza makes the same quick strike decisions, the difference is, Spezza makes passes behind him while Kane doesn't give a Dung and moves straight at the D-men. The giveaway numbers are probably pretty close, Spezza is the same style of player, but instead of a shoot first like Kane, he's a pass-first.

The analogy was that neither are captain material, but both propel their respective offences. The difference between teams is the level of talent backing up Kane in Chicago IMO.

Here, if Spezza wants to take it to the next level, just follow this:

Spezza: Games - 60, Giveaways - 58, Takeaways - 39

Alfredsson: Games - 70, Giveaways - 45, Takeaways - 76

It's not that tough to figure out IMO. That's standing between Spezza being good to being great. Hopefully the core around him will continue to improve, that's definitely a part of it too, but he's got to work on getting that puck back.
