There are some raging forest fires around Latuque -- that's some 300 km north-west of *Montreal*! This morning I first thought we had a house fire down the road. Yikes, that's a lot of smoke for fires that are some 450 km away.

I get what you're saying. I'm not in the "re-sign Volchenkov at any costs" group, I understand he's uni-dimensional but at the same time I'm in the "Let's get a cup for Alfie" group, it wouldn't feel right to have him retire without a cup . That's why we can't afford to sit back ,let Volchenkov walk , do nothing in the free agency or sign a scrub at best and wait for the kids to step up. We need to show we are a contender and act like one, so if I'm Murray and can't get Michalek or Gonchar signed at less than what I'm offering to Volchie than I need to show him the money. I don't believe the rumours that he's looking at 5 mil , probably Komisarek is the guy his agent points toward and says "my client is better than that guy so he deserves at least the same offer he got".
About the Pens series,a healthy lineup gets past the Pens. A healthy lineup and Leclaire from the last 2 playoff games advances to the Finals. Look how important health is,Chicago had only one injury throughout the playoffs (a 3rd liner) and Flyers had Gagne and Carter injured but Gagne returned to the lineup in less than 4-5 games and his return inspired the Flyers who went on and had the greatest comeback ever.

Thanks for the welcome:)

I think we're all in the 'Get Alfie A Cup' boat which is why we don't sign Volch. What's more important to you right now: a) Signing Volch for $5 million or b) signing Z. Michalek for $3.7 million and using that extra $1.3 million to sign Regin? I think everyone in this forum agrees plan b is the right move to make. The only major moves to this team are going to be on the defensive side with Lee and Kuba likely to go and one of Campbell or Michalek likely to come in. A few minor offensive moves like maybe the departure of Foligno, Shannon, and/or Kovalev (at the very most). It's likely going to be a quiet off-season for the Sens

Like I said in my post, signing one of Michalek/Gonchar at a lower price than Volchie would be a better move for us.

Welcome aboard!

Signing Michalek for less than A-Train gets might/should be possible, but signing the most sought after puck moving PP QB to anything less than 5.5 is not happening IMO.

i would of argued the possibility of that a week ago but this 2 mill raise on the cap is just going to get some of these players a raise they wouldn't have gotten before.
maybe puts a few more suitors for campbell also.

does sound like it
from SC
Wick Contract Coming?

The rumours have been out there for awhile now but the word is the Senators hope to officially sign Roman Wick at some point this week.

Wick is expected to come over from Switzerland and push for a spot at camp in September.

Little bit of a draft preview coming later today or tomorrow.

That's true actually. Still, the cap didn't rise meteorically, but yeah there could be a bump in prices now.

As for Campbell, I think there'll be a ton of suitors. At least 4 anyway. I think Columbus does one of 2 things. Either they acquire Campbell or they acquire Kaberle. Barring that they're dead next year, they need a puck mover to go with Russel.

Some good points but again, our problem wasn't exactly offense, more like brain farts and defensive collapse because our D were so slow and we didn't get timely goaltending. OUr calming presence on hte back end was non existant. They all wanted to make that big hit to change the momentum. And that pretty much gave the PEns 69 breakaways...
I don't know about you guys, but when the game gets faster, Sutotn and Volchenkov are pretty much exposed so bad it's not funny. I'd rather have Josh Gorges, the guy rarely hits, and yet is one of the most efficient defenseman out there, he and SUbban pretty much put Crosby to shame. Way more efficient than A-Train and Sutton.
Michalek is that kind of guy. Hamuis, Ballard, that kind of stuff.

Yep. I'd rather Michalek or Hamhuis than Volchenkov. I think most would agree.

As for Sutton, if the price is right I'd love to have him back, but we'd have to trade Kuba to do it - and that just seems like a ton of work for (almost) nothing.

I wouldn't sign Sutton for the only fact that it's 2 mIllion less to sign a big time player. Sutton is for me a 5th Defenseman after last year given his age, something Carkner and Campoli and Lee already do very well.
Don't patch the holes, buy a new car.

agreed. but the big reaso i want him back is he can strike that "fear of god" into the hearts of the opponents. it is very nice to have that sort of player on your team and may slow the reactions of our opponents in games. no vochie or sutton means we are going to be facing meaner more arrogant teams next year. and for 2,2.5, he's not to expencive.

I can see Sutton coming back if we can't land Michalek, Hamhuis or Volchenkov. Let's just hope it doesn't come down to that.

keep him as a 5th when it's like that. and really we have more then sutton that isn't fast. and when it comes down to it it's the 82 games of the year that we need him if we can't get to the playoffs it's no use having speed or not.(ok i exagerate) but seriously, no volchie , no sutton, we have better hope that gryba makes the team right out of camp and makes those much needed hits.

Who on Chicago besides Seabrook hits with that kind of ferocity?
