seriously i think there's a few prospects and players that could be gone before the draft. we could use another couple of 2nd rounders... lee, campoli, o'brien, zubov (if it can be done). even cody bass, i like him but i'm not sure he's got much of a shot at making the team anymore....

What? 870,00? Where did you hear that?

LOVED him up in Ottawa, he will be a better NHLer then an AHLer. Sucks for him because if he didnt get injured he would be an Ottawa Senator right now, in that time though, Smith has defently taken his place.

Well said though, I agree with all of this. 875K though, man, thats a bigger hit then I thought, but oh well.
seriously me too, i think he almost made the team. i'm not familiar with smith but judjing on the fact he hasn't been called up i think it's fair to assume there isn't a spot for him. i think there could be on another team. the lack of NHL experience will only get us a 4rth rounder TOPS.

Sometimes you feel like cutting them a break because they're 'nice' or they add depth, but the truth of the matter is, there's has to be something about them that makes them NHLers, some facet of their game that you're interested in developing. Picard was always like that to me, I thought he blew from almost the word go, he seemed to progress a bit, then digressed to the point where we could all see the writing on the wall - for the last half a year or more - that he doesn't do anything well enough to be in the NHL IMO. He's fringe, depth, but he'll never 'make it'.

I feel the same way about Brian Lee. I hope I'm wrong.

Lee does a ton of things well though. Fantastic skater, good first pass, and has a decent amount of hockey sense. His size is solid and he is a RH shot which tend to be a little more of an asset then LH shots. That being said, he has no confidence, his physical game is next to ntothing, he gets pushed off the puck and knocked over like hes about to go into the gaurd position, he whines and Wing Dang Doodle, and when he does face some adversity he falls apart.

Lee could go either way at this point, I def dont think he is NHL ready but maybe the only place he can get ready is The NHL... In Murray we trust.

I'll echo the in Murray we trust part and hope that Brian can learn that he's not made of tissue paper like it looks like.

Who knows if there is a spot for him down the road, he's still fairly young and it takes a while to stick in The NHL for guys like him anyways. When Ruutu's deal is over and he perhaps moves on, maybe a spot opens up on that 4th line. Just because there isnt a spot for him in the short term doesnt mean he wont be here eventually. I dont think it's worth dealing him for a 4th or worse, Bass is pretty much the type of guy you would draft with a 4th and he's pretty close to being an NHLer IMO.

He's a Front Bum for sure. There is a perfect example of a guy who wasnt ready for The NHL out of college and it hurt him. He was brought up on a panic mode by The Sens and short term he was fine but his development was defently stalled.

Lee made 850K this year, so it was either sign him now, let him walk as a non-tendered UFA or tender him in the summer for 900K+.

I honestly would not have tendered him a contract, I have no time for draft busts.

He's a 1st round bust for sure but it doesnt mean he is not or can not be an asset for The Sens down the road. I have no problem with this signing.

Believe it or not there's not a lot in his game that cannot be improved over time.

Im of the opinion you probably could have signed him to a one way contract for a little less because he would have signed anything saying "one way". But again, it's pennies in the grand sceme of things.

Agree 100%. He could definitely be a serviceable #5 guy who could cover in the top 4 if needed.

I'd be happy if he turns out to be a serviceable number 6 guys - or even a serviceable healthy scratch.

Exactly. There are things to learn, expierence, so on. Im not a fan of his by any means but there has always been potential. I hate his general attitude but sometimes you have to cut a kid some slack. The effort has to be there now, he's a full time NHLer starting next year.

He will never be a top end tallent, but like I said way back in August, the best I ever saw him was with Cowen at training camp. Maybe Murray is thinking the same way.

I think he will have played enough NHL games (don't quote me but I think it's 60) to need a one-way tender after this year.

I think he's at like 77 right now so... not sure though. Anyways, good signing, not gonna hurt the franchise and it creates compition in camp.

We're fine, all we can do is see how he continues to develop. No matter what anyone says though 875K is 875K, so if they feel he's not the right guy to have around, he'll be gone as part of a package deal at the draft.

Anyway, all this really means is that A-Train is going and Murray is starting to cover his bases. Next should be someone relevant like Sutton though, but Murray's one of the best for a reason, he'll get it done.
