Campoli is better than Lee and he could signed for cheaper with a qualifying offer (?) You better get damn good trade value for that player otherwise just keep him.

There's how I've been feeling ever since the announcement of the signing.

This is providing Cowen works his arse off to rehab his knee this summer (he will, he'll be in Ottawa with our staff). I've thought about it and I still think Lee gets traded this summer. No room.

We'd be trying to fit Cowen into an already crowded blue line next year, assuming we sign Volchenkov. At a $1.325 million cap hit, no less. Better to let him develop at least for another year, maybe even 2.

I agree, all I'm saying is that I'd rather have Cowen developing in the NHL than having Brian Lee logging time. Why? Because I believe that Cowen is better NOW and in the future it won't even be close.

What the heck are we gonna do with Campoli? I assume either he or Lee will be traded this summer, there's really no other way I don't think.

One of Campoli or Lee is definitely gone in the off-season. If Volchenkov leaves, do we sign Michalek or keep Sutton? Will be an intriguing summer to say the least for our d-men. I'm hoping if Volchenkov doesn't sign, we at least trade his rights with say a prospect to yield a bigger return.

We should probably not even bother worrying about Volchenkov's rights, they won't get you anything really. Bouwmeester - who is MUCH better than A-Train despite the season he's having only garnered a 3rd round pick and the rights to another UFA D-man, so A-Train might get us a 5th, coupled with a prospect = not even worth it.

And as much as I would LOVE to sign Michalek, a player won't decide where he's going until close to July 1 and there'll be 30 teams lining up to try to get him. If we could trade A-Train's rights for Michalek's, I would do that so we can get the upper hand, but right now why would Michalek even leave Phoenix? They're young, exciting, and have a great coach who understands the game. Even if Michalek comes here it would be for market value, he's not really gonna just take a discount because his bro plays here, so how much is that? 4.5? Might as well just keep the guy we farmed in A-Train.

No, if A-Train leaves we re-sign Sutton (again, hopefully he wants to be here or he'll test the FA waters) and we'll make Karlsson our number one D-man.

....Damn. I thought jay Bo got a 2nd rounder, but a 3rd rounder only? You're right about that.

Michalek is not going from $1.25 million to $4.5 million.

Does getting a 5th rounder plus a prospect for Volchenkov amount to losing him for nothing? Goddamn right it does. For that reason, I think we overpay and let Sutton walk, who might very well be the better player.

He pretty much cant develope any more at the Jr level, you need to be playing against better players and practicing with them as well. He domiantes in Jr and has for a long time, if he was AHL eligable he would probably play there next year but he isnt. The NHL might very well be the next step for him simply because he is too young to be in The AHL and probably too good to be in The WHL. Should be interesting to see the D group next year.

With the way he skates and his booming shot, I certainly believe he can still gain more offensive flair at junior level. Shea Weber is a perfect comparable IMO.

EDIT: IMO, the lockout was a big part of the 2003 draft's awesomeness.

Calm down, Campoli had the GWG that arguably saved this team's season. Our transition game has not been very good when Karlsson isn't on the ice, and Campoli was a big part of it a few games before the Olympic break.

I don't really care one way or the other personally, Lee or Campoli will probably see significant amounts of time in the press box, but I just can't imagine re-signing both of them, then having one of them fester in the press box. Seems odd. So again, where the heck does Campoli fit into this roster?

Why wouldn't Michalek get top dollar? What makes him different from Volchenkov? The big hits? Whatever, Michalek plays the position just as well and GMs around the league know it. When Volchenkov is snatched up on July 1, the next target will be Michalek and I bet he gets big $$.

Almost triple his current salary? I'm not saying he's not worth it. In fact, if we can save even 1 million from what Volchenkov wants, I'd jump at it. Same goes for Sutton at 2 - 2.5.

See, now Sutton I think could be had for 2 million or less considering his age and the fact that he grew up around here and is probably looking for one last 4-5 million contract (again, maybe less). But Michalek being relatively young, one of the premiere shot blockers and underrated offensively, is gonna make big lettuce IMO.

I'd absolutely and positively love to have Michalek on this team. Not sure if I would prefer him over A-Train, but it's soooooo close.

I would take Campoli over Lee without a question. Also, Campoli is Murrays guy. Again, nothing wrong with this signing but I really do think it is to trade the guy at some point soon. A signed player is a lot more valuable then an RFA at seasons end.

Wait, maybe you have something there. Maybe we can get Michalek for 5 years at 3.3 million a year - which is still cheaper than A-Train I would presume.

Assuming he wants to come here though...and who the heck knows what these guys want.

Yep, I was basically thinking the same thing last night. This was also to let Campoli know that he can't play hardball (not that he has a leg to stand on really).
