Well, Ottawa has a ton of blueliners now, what was a weakness only a year ago has very much turned into the deepest part of the current Senators lineup, both youth and expierence.

Phillips, Kuba, Karlsson, Carkner, Lee, with Campoli being an RFA and hopefully the resigning of A Train and Sutton.

Yeah, it was an almost immediate reaction. This guy is a tank, he's good positionally, he's a good passer, has a good shot and he Diddling clears the net like no one in Ottawa has done since Chara.

I noticed Sutton is a pretty decent skater as well. Pleasant surprise there. Looked very nice on the power play.

Yeah, he's basically really good at everything, nothing flashy, but he's way more mobile than I thought, great shot. I like him a lot, this size sample would be enough for me to sit down with him and his agent and talk about a 2 X 2 extension (or less please!).

Seriously, that guy looks like a top 4 D man right now and if Ottawa can lock him up 3 years between 7-8 mil, that would be an absolute steal.

You might even get him for less because he's 35. 2 million for 2 years please!

That would be some tasty chicken.

I'll go duck and cover now! Brian Lee re-signed by Sens for 2 years - Page 2 359747
That's good because I would bet good money that Volchenkov is a Cap by 12:01 on July 1st...

Fine with me, as long as we replace him with someone good.

Doesn't change the fact that the closest thing we have to a 1st pairing D-man is Phillips, and he is a marginal 2 without some kind of offensive threat in the 1 spot. Without a solid offensive D-man to work with, he's a fantastic 3...otherwise, we'd be pushing it to believe anyone else on the roster is anywhere near a 1st pairing D-man, at this point. Having a bunch of 4's, 5's, 6's and 7's is all well and good, but our weakness is clearly still the back-end.

Great point. We still don't have that bonafide number 1 d-man, but I'm convinced we're simply banking on Karlsson becoming much better for next season and assuming that role. The only d-men guaranteed back next season are Phillips, Karlsson, and Carkner.

I think we can agree that Kuba will be trade bait as soon as that NTC is finished, Campoli is an RFA, and Volchie is UFA.

You may very well be right but Karlsson seems to be making his way to that number 1 role and I bet by the time he hits 22, 23 he is a legit number 1 in The NHL, Cowen could very well get the one day as well.

I think in terms of the weakest part of the team, defense is still the biggest but overall, I wouldnt say it's a weakness, very deep with guys who can play 15 plus mins a night, not a lot of teams can say that. Defently defense by commity in Ottawa.

I dont agree with that at all, if A Train leaves thats a huge hole, if both Kuba and A Train leave, impossible to replace those mins. No shot that both leave and there is a better then average chance that A Train moves on after this.

I cant see Lee making over league min though, if he got a one way deal that is. Not sure what Murray has planned but at least now he has options in what he wants to do with this blueline and is prepared for any situation that may arise in regaurds to contracts and players that will or wont be here next year.

Didn't mean they all are gone for sure. I'm just saying that we can't guarantee that all three of those guys will be there next season.

I doubt highly all 3 will be, I would put it at about a 5% chance at best. If A Train resigns I think you see Kuba moved.

Yeah, I think we can count on Kuba taking over for Volchenkov and Karlsson being primed to be our future number one (he already is in my opinion).

I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Phillips and Kuba put together, nor would I be adverse to beginning the Phillips and Karlsson pairing as early as next year.

Also, Sutton adds a lot to this team, if he takes Kuba's spot as the number 3 man (Kuba moves up with Phillips), the Sutton can play permanently with Karlsson - which is a matchup I actually like a lot. Cowen and Carkner play third pairing with Campoli as the extra and Lee hopefully traded.

That's what I can see. I doubt Volchenkov will be a Senator next year, I think these are the final 20+ games we'll see him in this uniform unfortunately.
